Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery

Came across this presentation from the 2023 NASA Aerospace Battery Workshop back in November: https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/05-nasa-workshop-babuganguli.pdf Roadmap at the bottom: Tesla 4680 for comparison 232.5 Wh/kg 622.4 Wh/L 2023 • 300 Wh/kg • 350 Wh/L • 200 C/3 Cycles 2024 Tar...

Re: SpaceX News

Specifically, it was the reason for the attempt being delayed by one day. They de-stacked and swapped out the actuator (actually, all 4 I think I read).

Not only not the cause of the explosion, but also the explosion probably made the issue irrelevant ;)

Re: SpaceX News

Per Reuter's headline article today, seems like they could use a little less FWS involvement, but a little more OSHA involvement:

Re: SpaceX News

IIRC, USFW has until mid March to decide. Having had dealings with them before, I would be surprised for any day short of their allotment. Mental greenies in disguise. While I don't doubt your insight into working with FWS, there has been been a lot of evidence pop up this week that signoff is immi...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Wow, Skipjack, that was much more than I hoped for, thank you so much! Curious… I’ve been loosely following this board for many, many years and I recall posts that appeared based on personal knowledge or relationships with the Helion team. Don’t recall if that was you… is the rebuttal here based on ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

"The problems with Helion Energy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vUPhsFoniw&ab_channel=ImprobableMatter In case anyone has the time and energy to post a rebuttal there. The top level (pinned) comment smears David Kirtley's honesty. I tried. It got deleted. Go figure. That guy is a complete jerk. ...

Re: Vortex rocket engine: lighter, more efficient, more reusable

Anyone have a decent idea how the Vortex compares to SpaceX's Merlin engines? I did a couple of searches but couldn't find any real discussion. It might be because the various sources currently seem a bit vague on the exact specs of the Vortex. One of the major benefits SpaceX is looking for in the...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

We’re now over 30 shots and we have tripled fusion yield over last week. Not time yet to break out champagne, as we are still a factor of 4 short of our own record yield of ¼ joule. But going in the right direction. We’ve scanned from low to high fill pressure and we have found the sweet spot for n...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

Indeed they did... new post as of 15 minutes ago: Beryllium experiment started! In the first week, we fired 13 shots, starting June 4. As anticipated, first shot vaporized thin beryllium oxide layer, creating dust. Good news is that the dust is steadily being cleared off, with very little evidence o...

It does appear they are now actively de-orbiting one of the Starlink satellites: https://twitter.com/planet4589/status/1139334848001314816 Regarding ESA, they are actually now dipping their toes in a commercial launch provider program as well: https://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Transportation/...
