Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Well it would make sense if Antares was the name of the machne itself, considering they are creating Polaris right now... and both are names of stars that well, as we all know, do fusion in their cores.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
According to Wikipedia, Polaris will be able to produce 1 pulse per second for short periods, and Helion expects it to have net electricity production (not net "energy")
But there are already designing a new prototype called Antares... will Polaris be commercial or will only Antares be commercial?

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
in all scenarios however, it would still open the Solar System for human colonization (which I do not really think Starship does... it opens the Star System for exploration by scientists, miltiary, bases creation, etc... but I don't think it's feasible to transport 100 civilians who were NOT screene...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
I do not know where people are seeing 10 million Isp. I read an Isp of ~360,000 seconds and 330 kN of thrust for the D+He3 configuration. http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2018APS..DPPC11163S Building on the ZaP, ZaP-HD, and FuZE projects, scaling studies will be presented of an SFS Z-pinch as a fusion...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
I contacted ProjectRho administrator to talk about the Shared Flow Stabilized ZPinch. He was unaware of the 2006 paper with the torch ship like properties.
This was like 1 week ago.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
Are you Elmar?
The above post was very similar to the one posted at NSF forums.
I talked about a lander because I mentioned changing Starship to have a z pinch fusion engine, which I don't know if it would be ideal for take off and landings at planets.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
Lol, 90 days to Saturn is already better than expected. But 8 days to Saturn??? Screw impossible physics engines. There is a whole Star System to colonize. I was not even thinking 1g acceleration were possible Speaking of which... did you consider 1g just for fun or did you make some calculations re...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
Any torchship (high thrust high Isp) will have to deal with heat disposal problems. Aside that... what can we do with 10 million Isp and 1 MN thrust? Suppose SpaceX would find some way to install 2 of these on Starship (the upper stage), without modifying Starship payload space or weight. Starship L...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance
Has any paper mentioned some mission profile?
I would like to see what they expect with 10 million ISP and 1 meganewton of thrust.
and I wonder how many of these could you put in a ship...

Re: SpaceX News
Was too cryptic. FH may also go from exciting to boring. Thus it'll be great for yet another novelty to also be made boring, after FH. And so on. Exciting times :P "Daddy, these vacations on the Moon are soooooooo boring. My school friends say Saturn is much cooler!" and of course, kids on constant...
Re: EM Drive
anyone listened the SpaceShow Mach Effect interview cited by Tom Ligon above?
Re: EM Drive
But everybody ignore the real reason this will never work , and that would be heat from the power plant. You would have to radiate that heat out somewhere from the power plant and even with current tech that is no small feat. That, I would say, is just an engineering issue, not something I would be...

Re: Lockheed Skunkworks Announces Comm. Fusion in 4 years
Did they say WHEN the 4 year countdown would start? "We expect a working fusion reactor in 4 years (starting to count as soon as we reach breakeven in our lab)" Or maybe, they are counting it from the reference frame of the electrons in their machinery, which moving near light speed in the electron ...
