Terrestrial Energy (molten salt fission reactors)

In November 2017, Terrestrial Energy completed the first engineering program for the IMSR® design and the first step of the Canadian regulatory phase — Phase I of CNSC’s Vendor Design Review. This is a first for an advanced reactor. In addition, IMSR® power plant site selection work is underway in ...

I hope it works out that way (StarLink giving Musk oodles of cash to play with). I'll be looking very closely at signing up once StarLink goes into service.

Re: Thermal battery with 6-8 times the energy density of lithium

I didn't see Rossi's picture in the article, but a thermal generator with only 3 moving parts? Suggests thermoelectric generator with efficiencies ranging from 6% to 15%, that doesn't seem like a very good deal to me. I guess that would depend on the inputs to the grid. If there's going to be a fai...

Thermal battery with 6-8 times the energy density of lithium

Molten silicon. Grid-level storage, not for vehicles. They claim 60%-80% the cost of lithium.

Re: General Fusion in the news

Does anyone know what their funding situation is now? I cast about on the web and it seems their most recent influx of money was from a $25M grant in May of 2016. They say they'll need several hundreds of millions to build their 70% prototype.

Re: Water based propulsion for deep space efforts

The owner of the company replied to a comment attached to the article: If the specific impulse is as they say, 150 to 180, then this is completely worthless technology. Chemical rockets get a specific impulse of up to 400, I think they meant either 1500 or 15,000. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT PEOPLE Hey CJ,...

Water based propulsion for deep space efforts

The chief benefit seems to be cost. EDIT: more information on the website of...
