Re: SpaceX News
Finally, a landing that wasn't boring! So bummed that they cut the live feed as soon as the grid-fins jammed and it started spinning. Good to see Elon has already tweeted out the video of the whole landing from the top of the first stage, even if it is a bit motion-sickness triggering. I guess they ...

Re: SpaceX News
Oh yeah, by the way, SpaceX launched and landed a booster for the third time today. That's one booster that's flown three times. Also broke the record for most flights by one rocket in a year (19), the record for a rocket launched from the most launch sites, 3, and the U.S. record for most satellite...

Re: SpaceX News
Consensus on the SpaceX Facebook group is that it is a chunk of kerosene soot covered LOX ice. Several pieces can be seen breaking away from the base in earlier parts of the video. This piece appears right about the time that the re-entry chill-down was beginning, which involves LOX purge of the tur...

Re: SpaceX News
Yeah, another boring GTO launch and landing. Second flight of a block 5, and the second landing stuck right on the middle circle.
Boring....
It's like they're so good at this, they're making it look easy.

Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
I was not saying I believed it was real (which I didn't), I was saying that 17% of democrat voters believed it was real, and voted for Hillary anyway. That's what I was trying to point out. The scandal being a load of fetid dingoes kidneys doesn't matter. What matters is that there are people out th...

Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump
The Pizzagate article on Wikipedia shows the problem with the last election and our current political system in one paragraph. A poll of voters conducted on December 17–20 by The Economist/YouGov asked voters if they believed that, "Leaked e-mails from the Clinton campaign talked about pedophilia an...

Re: SpaceX News
You guys did see the quotes (") around the word "losing", right? It was meant sarcastically, because I don't believe the Zuma payload was lost or failed. The fact that there has been no federal-law mandated mishap investigation led by NASA, required when any space vehicle or launch is lost, seems to...

Re: SpaceX News
Amazingly enough, only 23 days after "losing" a billion dollar government payload, SpaceX was tapped to launch another billion dollar government payload in GovSat1. Which they just deployed into a perfect GTO orbit. Another flawless launch, and, from the commentary, a clean, soft, gear-down landing ...

Re: SpaceX News
I just don't understand the NASA/ULA fascination with Pyros. Just finished reading the excellent "How Apollo Flew to the Moon" by W. David Woods, and could not believe that they used pyros to cut the LEM from the CM after it had done its job. Consider that a mechanical docking system was acceptable ...

Re: SpaceX News
From what I'm seeing, they're saying that the Falcon 9 performed "nominally" which means it did it's job. SpaceX loathes pyrotechnic separators, but Northrop and the government loves the things. I'm wondering if the pyrotechnics failed to separate the satellite, so even though it was placed into its...

Re: SpaceX News
Has anyone seen any news about whether SpaceX has been able to safely rotate the landed booster to horizontal and get it safely into storage given that NASA is already on HORCON 2, with all non-essential personnel banned from Canaveral? Did they actually get the booster down and in a service bay in ...

Re: SpaceX News
I'm sorry, to continue a previous line of reasoning, you can't possibly give that landing a perfect 10. There's a mandatory one tenth point deduction with landing with one foot outside the line.

Am I the only one who thinks that Elon's latest kick -- The Boring Company -- has nothing to do with avoiding traffic and everything to do with building smaller, faster TBMs for drilling underground habitats on Mars?

Re: Bue Origin News
Most of the "scruff" on that rocket came from this flight when the escape booster launched and seared it pretty good. It actually looked pristine on takeoff. Sadly, my Estes V2 rocket was the victim (on the first flight) of a batch of defective D engines that blew up on ignition. 20 odd hours of wor...
