Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump

It is not about the court case. It is about outing methods and sources. This is a shot fired at the Russian Cyber Ship, and scoring a hit, "you aren't as smart as you think, and now you need to wonder what else we know you are doing as we were willing to out you on this..." The court case ...

Re: SpaceX News

I have also wondered this. Or even assisted guidance towards the recovery vessel net. Have them chase each other.

Re: Skynet is coming.

Here is another article talking about the "weapon" from The Drive. They also are skeptical and discuss how the Chinese article appears to be worded as aspirational vice declarative. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/21925/no-china-probably-hasnt-built-a-laser-assault-rifle-that-can-carb...

Re: Skynet is coming.

I agree that the article was general and unclear in many aspects. Carbonizing for example can be unpacked in multiple ways. For example, how large is the affected area? Pain is also subjective on many levels. Try to unpack that one. Of note is that this calculator does NOT account for distance and a...

Re: Skynet is coming.

China, like Russia, and others loves the idea of information campaigns. They are comparably very cheap when compared to actual functional capabilities and capacities. The part those who like information campaigns don't tend to understand often are the unintended consequences. Sadam comes to mind. As...

Re: SpaceX News

The yawn effect has even passed. Did no one notice that CRS-15 flew this morning. The last of the Block IV Falcons laid to rest in a successful second flight. The capsule is also a recycle.

You guys... losing interest so fast...

Re: EMC2 news

That would be helpful. It may not be necessary, however it would be helpful as it could provide some maneuver space.

Re: EMC2 news

No, none of those ideas.
The project has learned a lot, and needs a stable path forward.
A path is being worked out. That is what is complicated.

That sounds right. I wasn't sure, and recalled that is was a number 10 or less.
Thanks!

Re: SpaceX News

Well, being fair, it was a punted launch that ended up in the wee hours. I did watch the replay this morning. Very pretty night launch. Somewhere out there are some unhappy fish from the 1st Stage disposal. Next up is a block V I think. I believe NASA wants SpaceX to launch 10 of them prior to autho...

Re: The list of duds

Yes, I agree that for the home commercial market, there is currently limited, if any, application. Key word, currently. I have not been able to find a spin curve for the magnetic bearing models. However, given a 97% at 2 hours, it would imply that it is going to be rolling with recoverable energy fo...

Re: The list of duds

Yes, there, as with many concept technologies, was the early pipe dreaming. I do think the current state of affairs with composite flywheels, vacuum containment, and magnetic bearings, with thought towards high temp superconductor bearings, has flywheels in a competitive position for temp storage. T...
