Ahh.... I knew I was dealing with a basic confusion on my end. I was treating the He energy as a separate value from the referenced Alpha energy. For some reason I kept thinking of an Alpha as ONLY two protons... (because of the charge) Is the Bremsstralung radiation production reduced because the e...

D-D fusion isn't what I was thinking of. Boron 11 was. Bremsstrahlung and Alpha radiation, as well as the 4He+ 8.7 MeV seem to be there for the taking. I'm coming up to speed slowly on the math, and reading Tesla's old stuff on Bremsstrahlung. I'm tripping over basics here, and I'll apologize ahead ...

From badAndy: Exactly. And let me remind everybody that the simplest "space assembly" is automated docking of self-capturing assemblies, and goddam, we've known how to do that for years. There is a mass penalty for this, it isn't that large. Only in the situation where the structural/mass penalties...

I think we can come up with some better ways use He at high energy than boiling water. What % of output are we dealing with? I apologize for my inability to find a good formula, or come up with one of my own. How much energy is left in the He product, and how much will be produced as each other form...

I wouldn't be opposed. I'm a bit new here, and not a particle physicist... I can be a bit slow to reach the same velocity as everyone else in a conversation.

With a WB type core, we should have a good idea of where our high energy products will exit. Unless I'm forgetting something, we should have predictable "hot spots" that correspond to the cusp openings.

Energy conversion...

This might not be "bleeding edge" enough for this crowd, but I haven't noticed this on the board.

The MIT patents for nanotube capacitor tech has me the most hopeful.

No toxic electrolyte, nearly unlimited lifespan, nearly instant recharge.

The best quote I ever read was... "You could always tell which engine had just 'un-started' because it was the opposite from the side of your head that was hurt."

A beautiful bird, that deserves an heir...

Gosh! It sure would be a shame if that research "rice-bowl" was broken, and all that talent was released to the free market...

I wonder what would be possible if talent was coupled with a requirement to actually show results.

Skylon's engine cut away may be pretty enough for investors, and inaccurate enough for potential competitors. Just a thought here. I think they may have solved the cooling issues by more than just a more efficient exchanger. I think they may have also found a better method of managing their cryogeni...

If Skylon has the heat exchanger issues dealt with, Why should they be 10 years out? The airframe is simple. If they have the engine, we can blow the dust off the X-30 wind tunnel data, and tell Lockheed to fire up the CNC mill. The shape and engine positioning design they show is silly. You want as...

"The trouble is you can only destroy Mecca once." . Wrong. (sort of) We still have Medina, the Dome of the Rock, and hundreds of minor targets. I'm not saying it's the best option, but escalation is quite possible. The afore mentioned polywells do offer a very nasty possibility. One craft, nearly u...

The quote I was told about Muslim homosexuality was "Women are for making babies. Men are for fun."

If sexual/social stress is a concern, imagine the shortage of women in China due to the single child policy.
