Re: 2021 state of the horse race: ITER vs. dark horses

I don't have anything to add to this discussion, but I wanted to thank you guys for posting updates of all of these projects you're tracking. It's really helpful to me in keeping track of which project is where. Some of them are even new to me.

Re: Richard Nebel's Tibbar Plasma Technologies

Thanks for the link, Skipjack.

Do you happen to know what became of their plasma-based transformer idea? I haven't seen anything about it, but I found the idea pretty interesting.

Initially it was existing. Subsequently, the Supreme Court invalidated simple discoveries or isolation of the gene, but left genes that were "manipulated" externally, even if they weren't modified.

There is precedent, though. Gene's are naturally occurring, but patents have been granted on them.

Re: EM Drive

If memory serves, EW later removed the dielectric since it had no appreciable effect and proceeded with the vacuum test with a design more similar to Shawyer's. Per the emdrive wiki and comments on NSF, NASA only produced results when using an HDPE extruded dielectric. http://emdrive.wiki/Experimen...

Re: Dr. Park invites questions from the community

I wonder if it makes sense to lock this thread to prevent the questions and Dr. Park's answers from getting lost in the discussion to follow. And maybe make it sticky, too.

If you're doing RAID, make sure it's RAID1, not RAID0. If you're not, make sure you're backing up these drives to something. Drives fail all the time. I'd hate to see you lose data.

Re: Mach Effect progress

What about natural Mach Effect phenomena? I've never been able to think of a natural phenomenon that would generate more than insignificant effects. You really need fantastically high internal energy and UHF to get a pronounced effect. I suppose if you had entire crystal planets being swung through...

Sure. But is the goal to create the largest reactor, or to demonstrate a viable reactor?

This bit from the tech crunch article on Helion made me laugh for it's (I think unintentional) implication.
Unlike ITER, the international effort to build the world’s largest experimental fusion reactor ....
