Re: ZAP Energy News

Zap Energy has published a new paper on arXiv on the 18th of January 2024. This work was apparently earlier presented at the IAEA FEC 2023. They are validating their simulations against their experiments to be able to trust the simulations to be used for improving performance in their devices. The F...

Re: ZAP Energy News

Fusion is a very hard nut to crack. At this stage any of the different fusion concepts might still face unexpected difficulties. But until someone really gets there for sure we cannot really know who it will be in advance. Both Zap Energy and Helion Energy currently have funding so they can develop ...

Re: JET will attempt Q-record by the end of the decade

Before JET was shut down for good a new record of 69 MJ of fusion energy was made at the end of 2023.This is 10 MJ more than in 2021. https://ukaea.canto.global/v/JETWorldRe ... &from=list.

Re: ZAP Energy News

I guess they also have a lot to learn on how to optimize the running of their device(s) and to optimize also the power supplies in order to increase the pinch current. It will be interesting to follow their developemens in 2024.

Yeah, I was only mentioning those that are less than 2 years away (potentially!). CFS, GF and TAE will be longer. CFS Q>1 attempt has shifted to the right to 2026 as well.
Skipjack, I did not know that the SPARC Q>1 target year has moved to 2026. Where did you see that?

Re: General Fusion in the news

My guess and speculation is that the fancy architecture of the Fusion Demonstration Plant became too expensive as a next step in terms of the available funding for General Fusion, so LM26 was created to target a bit scaled down results with less money required. This plan has clearly been welcomed by...

Re: National Ignition Facility

CFS is aiming for 2025 with the SPARC and General Fusion today issued a press release aiming for 2026 with their Lawson Machine 26 (LM26). Tokamak Energy and TAE Technologies also have detailed plans. The next step after achieving scientific breakeven is to do that repeatedly and reliably, which req...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

From David Kirtley's talk at SOFE. darn the capacitor banks are huge compared to the fusion core. From what I understand from what David told me, the banks get smaller with higher pulse rates, but I am not sure how all of this fits together with the Microsoft plant. HelionSOFE01b.jpg Some spin- off...

Re: General Fusion in the news

The quote continues: The data gathered from LM26 will be incorporated into the design of the company’s planned near-commercial machine in the UK. This is another quote from the FIA 2023 report: Recent company investments: General Fusion relocated and expanded its headquarters to Richmond, B.C. The n...
