I found the Bockscar to be very shiny when I visited the USAF museum in Dayton. Literally, shiny, even more than a DC-3, but maybe I haven't seen any really shiny DC-3s. Don't Deloreans come up on Ebay and similar sites every once in a while? I wonder how much restoring one would cost... The DeLore...

Granularity on the Grid in a BFR world

I suspect that functioning BFRs will reduce the need for a massive grid upgrade. The BFR allows local production of power since there's no pollution and "no" radiation hazzard. The greatest problems with our current power grid revolve around the long-distance transmission of large power loads and th...

not that there are too many polywell forums either. This is THE forum dedicated to polywell fusion so naturally Dr. Nebel found himself posting here. There are other people here with merit, and if it weren`t true he wouldn`t bother with the forum. Anybody that heard about polywell a few years ago a...

I've often wondered what value Dr. Nebel gets out of posting here. ... I wonder that Dr. Nebel has providee as much information as he has. You imply that Dr. Nebel is a money grabbing bastard. Some people have higher ideals. You miss my point, I believe. I'm saying that Dr. Nebel is a saint to have...

Many congratulatoins to Rick, his team and the US Navy. He must have done a fine job in front of the review board. Isn't it about time we heard from the man himself? A result or two for us to chew over wouldnt go amiss either :) I've often wondered what value Dr. Nebel gets out of posting here. I'v...

Given the pressure the Navy is receiving from the DoE not to fund this technology (it competes with Tokamak), I think there really is a fair bit of pressure on EMC2 to perform or they really will get the chop. Do you know of specific pressure regarding EMC^2, or are you paraphrasing assertions made...

I would suggest the following change in wording: "A measure of 'force' is the entegral of rate of change of enerty wrt distance." We don't actualy know what "force" *is* - we just know how to describe it in terms of work, etc.

My hope for our country's financial problems lies in the BFR plus significant improvements in batteries over the next 20 years. That combination will free up so much capital that we'll be able to pay off our rediculous debt-load at last. Or so my dreams go. I'll let you be in my dream if you let me...

So why, you may ask, will the BFR mean more oil use? All of the GDP that is spent on buying electricity will be free for use in other use. Households will have that extra $ to spend on consumer items. Manufacturing costs will come down since power-consumption is a non-trivial component of any manuf...

(de-lurking, hi everyone) I think the benefit for humankind would be unsurpassed. As MSimon said above that most of the unrest around the world is because of oil. Take oil out of the equation and we'll see a level playing field. I keep seeing a perceived connection between "inexpensive" electricity...

Given that ARPA-E has now received $400 million in funding (where it was not funded at all under the Bush administration) and that Steven Chu is at least aware of Dr. Bussard's work, I have hopes. I assume the Navy would be willing to let the folks at ARPA-E take over funding the folks at EMC2 if Dr...

whoa guys, what's with the hate on DOE, they aren't that great, but they fund research for my friend's dad's research and my professor's research, as well as many other, so they're okay in my book. Norrowmindedness. Not a good thing for a scientific organization. Narrow-mindedness. The norm in a bu...

And what about a fast transatlantic liner : Europe-America in two days  ! I live in a city which used to be a very LARGE transatlantic harbor and is now maybe the largest (almost) EMPTY deep water harbor in the world. The mayor will build us a statue if we bring back ocean liners to his town!...

BFR impact on global activism

I suspect that having really inexpensive electricity will just shift those individuals of the activist disposition from fossil-fuel-activism to protect-the-earth-activism. And there will be plenty for them to do there. I believe available power is a significant limiting factor on the ability of the ...

One quick thought on modern average life style vs kings of 1850. I'm betting a king would be pretty envious of anyone with air conditioning on a hot summer day. And all of his teeth. One of the most attractive features of a person in the mid-eighteen hundreds was if they still had a full set of tee...
