Anyone who owns a gun but isn't properly disciplined, trained and skilled is of doubtful use in an emergency. Flight 90. Those people prevented hijackers from crashing a plane into the Capitol. And they didn't even have guns. A truly humbling example. The story of United Airlines Flight 93 should r...

Here is a Tesla book I read a while back and really enjoyed. It covers some of Tesla's inventions in his own words. It gives a feel for how much Tesla understood about electrical theory and how much he was ignorant of. Any second year student in electrical theory would be familiar with this materia...

I think you'd be surprised at the effectiveness of untrained American males. Most of us have some informal training in applied group violence, even if it's just football or hockey. We're a pack, not a herd. If you've been to a good school, sure. The rest of the population aren't as well prepared.

Studies have shown that the Sahara was a lush savannah during the early interglacial period (9,000 BC-5,000 BC), when global temperatures were higher than at present. Current studies predict a significant increase in rainfall in the sahara in the event of global warming (which would of course cool ...

In any case, the workaround to the "unorganized militia" thing is what happens in Michigan where you have people creating their own militias in order to insure their ability to own weapons. If "all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under ...

As a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard for 15 years before I got out, I can tell you that well-regulated militias already do exist. And are quite functional. Ask all of them who are currently in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, including many friends of mine. You have my admiration. The Na...

and we can spend lots of money on them. Oops, did they hear me? No? Whew!" Now you know the rest of the quote!  Not this office - did you want the one down the hall marked "ITER"? Quaternions are only more expensive in mental effort. NASA reached the moon without them, but now uses th...

Re: To those concerned Obama was anti-nuclear (IntLibber)

"well regulated" in the legal dictionaries of the time was defined as "trained and skilled", not "subject to statutory limitations". We agree on this. "Trained and skilled" doesn't necessarily mean "self trained", and "organized" doesn't necessarily mean "subject to statutory limitations". NRA cert...

Re: To those concerned Obama was anti-nuclear (IntLibber)

Alex, the last time a Brit thought he could dictate to us Americans about our ability to keep and bear, y'all got sent packing. The right to keep and bear arms was not just a preexisting right under the English Bill of Rights (a document generally nonexistent and unobserved in its native land today...

This is not an unsupported position of mine. He did the same thing on gun control when the supreme court issued the Heller decision. After a lifetime of legislating against the 2nd amendment and gun rights at the local, state, and federal level (he has NEVER voted for a bill that supported 2nd amen...

I also managed to get the full Navier-Stokes/Poisson/Nernst-Planck moving boundary system working for the full electrokinetic problem, and matched the theoretical steady-state small-deformation limit result to within 0.01% Can you do that with Quaternions? Do we have a wiseass here? (Okay, maybe I ...
