we maybe barking up the wrong tree all together

Over the last few weeks, I've been trying to figure out TGFs (terrestrial gamma ray flashes) which seem to be explicitly linked to thunderstorms and lightning. Several news articles have reported saying that positrons, neutrons, and gamma rays have been detected during lightning strikes. Every one o...

Re: Liquid semiconductors

Actually the idea I got now is probably going to cause me trouble too

Ever heard of this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin_water_dropper

There are several videos on it on youtube. I made one also:

Liquid semiconductors

Nuclear batteries don't do very well for a number of reasons one of them I'm told is that high energy nuclear particles tend to destroy crystal lattices. Would there be any benefit to using a liquid semiconductor junction since there are no lattices to destroy? Just thinking about liquid batteries w...

Thanks Hanelyp

I think that is satisfactory. However isn't the distance between galaxys mostly a pretty good vacuum?

Re: Magnetic forces are favored?

Electrostatic fields were pretty well investigated by the vacuum tube folks, and exploited commercially. Now most people find that technology passé. They were the basis for particle accelerators ranging from Time of Flight Mass Spectrometers to the first Atom Smashers. But I guess when they started...

Re: Magnetic forces are favored?

Thanks for the stories Tom! Here is another weird thing. Scientists assume that there is this giant imbalance of matter to antimatter in the universe. How do they really know that? Doesn't antimatter behave exactly like matter in terms of spectra? How do we know there aren't anti-matter galaxies? An...

Magnetic forces are favored?

Hello, Am I wrong in believing that magnetic forces are far more studied than electrostatic forces? I had a hunch that tokamaks would be practical as soon as really high powered magnets became available. MIT had an article that said basically the same thing (sorry I can't dig it up). So the quest fo...

Re: cheap, high performance, thermo electric material discoverd

Thanks for the update. 13 watts for $375 is kinda high but might have some interesting niche applications. Since they don't just outright say how efficient it is I'll have to crack open a spreadsheet

Re: Just more powerful magnets

Ultra strong magnetic fields wouldn't mitigate bremsstrahlung losses unless you were doing something extremely clever. I have some hope with MIT and CO's findings regarding radiation loss concerning electrons. But I'm not holding my breath. :P

Re: EM Drive

This will likely land me in hot water, but I think I will say it anyways. These EM drive experiments have produced positive results under certain conditions. The experiments done at the Eagleworks involved the use of a plastic disk in the microwave chamber. Apparently plastic is weakly dielectric. ...
