Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
I saw a recent article on a hypothetic closed fuel cycle for light water reactors. If I remember it right an advanced scheme built upon a breeding ladder från U238 to 240 to 241 with subsequent fuel processing. It could theoretically deliver a breeding ratio better than unity. Which should relieve a...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage
And even if there is no fusion yet for 50 years standard thermal fission will provide ample power for the time being. GE BWRX-300 is projected to cost 2,35 miljon dollars per MW installed when in serialized production. If that is realized it will always be cheaper to just build more power production...

Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery
Cuberg made this little video of a drone equipped with their battery.
https://cuberg.net/news/cuberg-battery- ... light-time
Nice but really not much of a proof.

Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery
The automotive has certainly learnt a few things from debacles like Envia and Sakti3. Quantumscape has always been a serious business willing to accept external testing and review. But somehow I feel a solid electrolyte is like crossing the creek for water. The gain in gravimetric specific energy is...

Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery
"Under Department of Defense (DoD) test protocols, a LytCell™ prototype design has demonstrated greater than 1,400 cycles." Then there should be a test report. Why not just publish it? Or give at least a few key technical facts: Weight of the cell, achieved energy output on the first and the last cy...

Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery
If they really have a battery breakthrough: Why don´t they terminate further doubt by sending a few cells to an independent third party test company and publish their report? Voltamperometry, weighing the cells and estimating cycle life is not rocket science if done on a basic level just to provide ...

Which is of less significance. Any schoolboy might get 100 megakelvins using lawn mower ignition coils in a fusor..Hasn't LPP already announced that they had achieved two billion degrees?

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp
Looks like TAE will (as usual) present a flurry (33) of papers at this year's APS meeting. Here is one of them that sounds interesting: http://meetings.aps.org/Meeting/DPP20/Session/VP13.4 No news on Copernicus, it seems. I wonder how that is going. From the same presentation: Design development on...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp
Latest results from Norman: 30 ms steady state plasma, 400 eV electron temperature. From what I understand they have a density of 5x10^12 to 5x10^14 cm^-3. That is OKish, but not Earth shattering. I was honestly expecting a bit more, especially temperature wise, but maybe they will push it further....
