Re: Brillouin Energy Corporation
Brillouin announces SRI validation of its reactor. Although it sounds like validation was the effort of only one man at SRI. COP of 1.2x to 1.45x. Excess heat only a few watts. Meh.

Figure 1: Vostok ice core records for carbon dioxide concentration and temperature change. https://skepticalscience.com/images/Milankovitch_Cycles_400000.gif This graph suggests we'd be due for (or already experiencing the start of) a sharp downward trend in temperatures about now. Which is stronge...

Also, among other things you'll have to explain, is how Venus's atmosphere got destroyed by a runaway greenhouse effect. To which the obvious reply would be that Venus receives twice as much sunlight as does the Earth, which could mean the system was pushed beyond the point at which negative feedba...

Re: BLP news
This does not mean that the electron can not be pushed to lower orbits- closer to the nucleus, but this requires energy, it is endothermic. So you're saying that when an excited electron falls to the "base" state it gives up energy (a photon), but if it were to fall to an even lower (fractional) st...

Re: Diamonds turn nuclear waste into nuclear batteries
Hmm, well, it's in Popular Mechanics too I see, which is pretty much doom for a technology. Interesting to think about though. They say that the current is too small for a cellphone, but is that 100% true? It could slowly charge a capacitor for bursts of communication. It may have space applications.

Diamonds turn nuclear waste into nuclear batteries
http://newatlas.com/diamonds-nuclear-batteries/46645/ One problem with dealing with nuclear waste is that it's often hard to tell what's waste and what's a valuable resource. Case in point is the work of physicists and chemists at the University of Bristol, who have found a way to convert thousands ...
