Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

From what I have seen, they are already at 300kA with the current setup, but they need to upgrade the power supply for 400 kA. I didn't notice that in the start..... its weird, because all the results they listed for this 300kA pinch (1-2 keV ion temperatures, 1-2x10^23 m-3 densities and neutron yi...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

From what I gather is just more confirmation of the neutron production in FuZe and that these neutrons are indeed thermonuclear in nature. The abstract of the paper seems to hint so. That would be indeed a welcome confirmation and a sure boost on the expectations for the higher power machine. I wil...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

This is just published and related to FuZe investigation and characterization of the produced neutron flux: "Measurements of temporally- and spatially-resolved neutron production in a sheared-flow stabilized Z-pinch" https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0168900219312173 Unfortunately i...

High temperature quantum anomalous Hall effect

A good day for all Thermoelectric and advanced material scientist. The existence of a magnetic Weyl semi-metal in the form of Co3Sn2S2 that could display a quantum anomalous hall effect at room temperature was theorized one year ago, and today the announcement that the compound was realized and is i...

Re: EMC2 news

I remember that those was all points supposed to be investigated into the "Proof of Principle" reactor. 1) Verifying and characterizing the Wiffleball properties, ion circulation and magnetic line configuration at the (partially or totally closed) cusps 2) Verifying and characterizing the behavior o...

Re: EMC2 news

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but reading the new patent, Polywell now: 1) does not need an electron-beam-injected potential well to operate, 2) requires a 2.5 meter radius core to generate just 90MW of fusion power even with D-T, and 3) has even less of a chance than before of burning aneutronic fu...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

Same feelings. I guess that before the end of the year we should know more.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

Maybe they didn't fully disclose the abilities of FuZE or it was built in a way to be easily upgradeable.
After al they are now a commercial company and if I was in their shoes I would also not fully disclose what I am able to do unless i discuss with a qualified investor.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

[Have you seen this paper? They revised it in February. https://arxiv.org/abs/1806.05894 It seems to me that the increase of neutron production with the square of deuterium concentration (in accordance with expectations) should be proof enough, no? Let me state again that I agree with the logic the...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

That video above is from May. They have proven that the neutrons are from D2 fusion. I will need to check it back again, I seem to remember that also in the video they said (like in the 2018 paper) that the neutron flux was "coherent" with Deuterium fusion occurences, but there was no definitive pr...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

Zap Energy got the grant in November 2018, so it should almost be time for an update. If they can prove that the nature of neutrons generated was indeed coming from Deuterium fusion and that the system can scale as expected while keeping stability, we might have indeed the technological base for a n...

Not sure what your point is, but I didn't find anything worth discussing or arguing or questioning about in that newspaper article.

Re: Spherical Tokamaks

It took 4 years to complete the upgrade, 3 years to pinpoint the issues after the upgrade, and who know how many more years will pass before (if) they will complete the renewal. We can easily say that at least 10 years will elapse from when the machine was lastly used to when it will produce again s...

How about Nephilim. Do you believe in nephilim.
I do not believe in anything that requires the use of unquestionable truth or unquestionable statements as the base of their beliefs.
