> Pointing out to an individual how, in fact, acting in the best interests > of all is acting in their own best interest. Except, whilst I would agree with that, and try to promote the idea myself. I find that the vast majority of people always try to scam the system and look for ways to gain someth...

I imagine its easier to exert influence over someone whose your allie than not. Which is why generally I'm in favour of making friends with other countries, rather than trade embargos and such like which never seem to work well in the end and only help to isolate the country futher, leading to yet m...

Practically all the burglars/muggers I speak with tell me that they rob to feed their habit, thats not really changed over the years. More drug gangs are around though nowdays, (More like 'Its a crime' PBM every day...) though strangly I notice drug dealers beginning to move out of poor neighbourhoo...

Often the, people need education answer is suggested, but I really do reckon now that after many decades of education that people, even kids do really know most of the time what they are doing when it comes to drinking, smoking, drugs, you name it, people tend to do it for some reason, but education...

> Addicts can function quite well if they aren't forced to pay > incredibly inflated profit margins to criminals I suppose one might say, maybe it depends on the drug, if you take alcohol, the effects in the UK at least of cheap booze is it helps fuel an awful lot of crime. Sure people aren't going ...

> The Germans were a Nation. Terrorists are presumably not > acting under the direction of a sovereign government. Hmm.... so... how come we are invading so many countries then in the name of being at war with these terrorists ? I think one of the things which erk those whose countries we have invad...

Its a tad amusing if we are at war to call the other side terrorists. I can imagine the headlines back in WWII days.. "German terrorists fly over London and drop bombs" It just doesn't quite have the right ring about it.. (I should point out that having a large section of relatives killed by German ...

> Until he invaded Kuwait, Iraq was a "friend" of the west. You know what makes me suspicious, having read once that Saddam before he invaded Kuwait, phoned up the Americans and asked if they would mind/object to him doing so, they replied that it wasn't a concern of theirs and they wouldn't object....

I find debate useful, and learn a lot, and its quite common I learn things that I didn't know before and it changes my opinion about things. It can take a long time, but none the less I find it generally useful and without it I'd have a very blinkered view of the world limited to just my own experie...

My view is that the US is generally way ahead of the UK, so I'm rather with Skipjack's view on things, here in the UK we have a rather almost at times, third world country now.. > Britain is turning into one of the most terrifying places for privacy > and liberty that I can think of at the moment In...

> In fact we could solve the CO2 "problem" by planting trees I like trees, I like living near trees, walking under trees, and I generally push the idea of tree planting around new homes, but for some reason, virtually every green I stumble across is very anti-tree.. I'm really confused how anyone ca...

I once lived in a very poor neighbourhood and had lots of security lighting, various comments from the criminal element in the area said that it would make their job easier to break in or mug people because they could see better.. Now I live in a slightly less poor neighbourhood and I used to have s...
