Re: SpaceX News

Hmm... if the fuel cost from earth to LEO is ~$10000/lb, what is the cost from the Moon or Mars to LEO? Does that create a commercial opportunity to build a fuel station somewhere to service a very large demand for fuel in LEO? Is there enough carbon, oxygen and hydrogen on the Moon to make fuel the...

Re: EM Drive

Sadly, a lightbulb design that doesn't work won't prove very much on the concept of the electric lightbulb, but is disappointing. Has EMdrive been tested in space? If you want to go all-in speculation/conspiracy, check out the Operational History of the X37B OTV in Wiki. The thing was designed to sp...

Re: EM Drive

Can you quote me their claims of thrust? There are no press releases on their website with any claims that I can see. The force required to maintain orbit is not high (I think 30-230 micronewtons), but this has to be sustained over six months. If they are determined to cheat, they can certainly do t...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

But to get to the full planned current of 2.8 MA, the inductance of other parts of the FF-1 circuit must be reduced, so more energy is available inside the vacuum chamber, and less is wasted in magnetic field energy outside the chamber. The research team has some concrete ideas of how to do this, b...

Re: LENR Is Real

A fascinating part of the video was Miles saying that he had a electrode which consistently produced excess heat, changed it, and it took him nearly a year to get excess heat again. If I was a skeptic, under pressure to confirm the known laws of physics, I might not have spent the year. I believe th...

Re: LENR Is Real

Apropos the title of this thread, this video is interesting. An interview with Melvin Miles on old research showing high correlation between excess heat and excess Helium 4, quantitatively consistent with d+d->He4 fusion with no gamma production. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM82RW7_II4 R.

Re: EM Drive

Poster DaChuna on NSF recently discussed being offered a PhD studentship to work with Tajmar on "optimising em drive resonances" IIRC.

Tajmar seems to be in enough doubt to carry on working.

Re: EM Drive

I've also followed NSF since last summer. There has been a change recently, in that the DIY posters have not come up with real data for a while. The Travellers 8mN force with just under 100W power is a very significant number, but I think folk are right to be skeptical as there is no real report on ...

Re: EM Drive

Let's hear it for page-breaks! I mean, from the recent post:

"...moderated by a person who openly admits to trying to dox folks online."

What do you mean by "dox"?

Re: The Space Show this week ...

Just listened to the Lerner podcast. Not much news to those familiar with their earlier presentations, except that they are currently 'baking' the oxygen and water out of their tungsten electrodes, and ought to be done next Monday. I guess some chance that there will be more substantial news in thei...

Re: p-B11 Fast Ignition Scheme Using PW, ps-scale Laser Pulses

I'm quite surprised that there has been no comment on one thing which caught my eye in the paper: they talk of an 'avalanche' reaction with energetic alphas provoking further reactions. Isn't that a chain reaction? Is the gain so high because they have managed to provoke a small (ok very small!) exp...

Since the topic is 'LENR is Real' not just 'Rossi acts like a fraud', I thought this was interesting.

Re: Why a cubic arrangement of coils?

Oops. Apologies, you're right, the currents are opposed but I realise now the B-fields actually reinforce where the rings approach, so there is no dead spot.
