Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

The basic inputs to an economy are labor, material, energy, and information. Expanding information (aka technology) allows us to employ material and energy resources more efficiently, or resources not otherwise useful. And allows us to build machines to perform labor. Modern industry, using modern ...

Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

Nuclear fission was supposed to usher in this new age, yet the amount of energy released also makes it dangerous. That is not why Fission is dangerous. Fission is Dangerous because humanity as a whole does not want to deal with the waste issue. Not because of the amount of energy it releases. Mater...

Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

There is no such thing as "effectively free", never was and never will be. Everything has a cost, typically a combination of energy, material, time and opportunity. Energy is not free nor will it ever be as it's finite, it can be made cheaper but that doesn't make it free nor and there is...

Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

* Effectively Free transportation * Effectively Free energy * Effectively Free labor What happens to the dynamic when somebody throws in effectively free currency? Some would argue that's the situation the banking system has been allowed by government via QE. Allow me to rephrase your question. Is ...

Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

For some good to be post-scarcity, its price in the marketplace must be Effectively Free. There is nothing in our economy that meets that definition. To get there and have the biggest impact I would start with food production. Which means we need to be able to produce enough food for everyone in th...

Re: Well he's not Zefram Cochrane, but...

Before I get to what needs to happen to get to real post scarcity(that an actual human being cares about), I have to define a term I will be using. That term is Effectively free. Effectively free doesnt mean that people dont have to spend money on it. It just means that the cost of paying for someth...

Re: Mach Effect progress

I think what Diogenes is calling out is that even though we have a lot of material as far as theory and results from experiments what he probably needs is a schematic breakdown of how the tested devices are built with a general reason for why that particular design was used.

Re: Mach Effect progress

I realized while commenting about the sachs paper on NSF that the real reason I dont believe the order matters is as follows * If Sach's is right then Mach's Principle is apart of Einsteins General Relativity theory. Which Woodward is also claiming. * From my perspective (NOT A PHYSICIST) I get the ...

Re: Mach Effect progress

So I popped over the NSF EmDrive thread to see if there was anything insightful going on and noticed a line of discussion that pretty much starts here . Which eventually leads to the interesting discovery here . Now what is interesting about Rodal's comment is the following Mendel Sachs has a websit...

Re: Mach Effect progress

A large part of my lack of concern is due to the fact that we don't yet have the technology in question, and by the time we do the theoretical ramifications will be much better understood. I actually disagree with the idea that M-E use accelerates the expansion of the universe. But my attitude is b...

Re: Mach Effect progress

I think my caution in regards to unleashing ME electrical energy generators on humanity is responsible. That said if someone can prove that we aren't adversely speeding up the end of the universe, I am all good. Mainly because ME thrusters are already going to be leveraged to the hilt by every being...

Re: Mach Effect progress

Yes ME propulsion makes gravity wells effectively flat. But thats from the perspective of how easy it is to climb out of. Not from the perspective of the energy cost to drive the ME thruster. that cost still exists. it might be lower but it isnt free, its like needing a full tank a gas versus half a...

Re: Mach Effect progress

Not sure if this thread is the right place for this question/line of discussion. please point me to the right place if you feel it should go elsewhere. I noticed someone made the comment about hobbyists making their own ME thrusters. Which got me thinking. What will the government involvement be? Fo...
