Re: SpaceX News

Not harsh, they really do need to put up a long string of successful flights to prove reliability & preferably hit that twice a month cadence they keep talking about.. I'm a believer but I would rather like delivery. Still, a good start to the year & fingers crossed for the rest.

Re: SpaceX News

Success then :)
Watching the first stage come all the way down to a succesful landing was pretty impressive, the feed only cut out for a second or two.
Getting the satellites up was good too of course..
Webcast link here in case you missed it.

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

The AGW church "debunks" everything that does not conform to the doctrine. Investigates things that don't conform to prediction and tries to update their models to better conform with reality.. It does not even shy from "Policy Based Evidence Making". Please show. Seriously. Some actual verifiable ...

Re: SpaceX News

Given some of the conditions I've seen considered fine for football that might be a tall order :) Not so fun at the time...

But yes, that would be nice, though I'd guess things would always be a bit more conservative.

Fingers crossed for Saturday.

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

- a CO2 in jar experiment shows no warming despite having several orders of magnitude more CO2 that the levels that are blamed for AGW I'm still not certain to what you are refering specifically, however in googling I got to this which was related and interesting: http://earthscience.stackexchange....

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

- the pole ice is melting while south pole is growing. CO2 is pretty much 400 ppm in both cases As a previously pointed out this was something that had climate scientists curious, they do look you know... Sea temperatures in the south pole are also increasing but the increase in ice is the result o...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

Choff, as I wrote before, the Nimoy "The Ice Age is coming" thing was purely a bit of media misinterpretation. There was no scientific consensus about a potential ice age and this wasn't a thing that was being actively pushed by the scientific community. If anything evidence at the time was pointing...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

I don't have time now to answer some of your earlier points, I'll try to do that tomorrow though I will note that most if not all of them were answered earlier in this thread. Broadly though I'd say that something being difficult to understand doesn't make that understanding render the overall pictu...

Re: SpaceX News

Hopefully reusability will provide some of the hardening needed as a side benefit but I suspect given the difficulty of what they are doing we are always going to see them err on the side of caution.
Still, yes that would be nice.

Re: Tokamak Energy news

That's interesting, thanks for sharing :) I was lucky enough to take a tour around CCFE , home of JET and MAST, recently. In the entrance lobby they have a huge picture of the inside of JET - it is fascinating how KSTAR looks so similar and yet somewhat cleaner and more futuristic. I suppose given t...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

I'm still fascinated by the ability to conflate the whole "vaccines cause autism" thing with AGW. The vaccine thing was a load of rubbish and has been roundly debunked by the scientific community and not without quite an expenditure of resources beyond those initially invested to demonstrate safety....

Looks like the weather isn't permitting and things have been pushed back to the 14th. Fingers crossed not gremlins.. Better a safe later launch than an early failed one.

Re: SpaceX News

It has been widely reported but, in case you missed it, the FAA has cleared SpaceX to launch.

Fingers crossed for Monday.

I'm interested to see how this plays out, it has been a long time..
I can't believe this will be the final act, but maybe?

Or not: https://www.skepticalscience.com/satell ... sphere.htm
I'd also say that to me that graph doesn't show a clear cooling or warming trend, but to each their own.

Interestingly the stratosphere is apparently predicted to cool.
