Re: More Helion Energy news....

Nice to see you back on TP after the break Skipjack! Thanks bud! It is good to be back. After all these years, everyone here is a bit like extended family to me. Hope to see more people return now that the forum is back up! It is interesting what you report about Helion Energy as they have really b...

Some more interesting tidbits about ZAP: https://arpa-e.energy.gov/?q=slick-sheet-project/sheared-flow-stabilized-z-pinch-performance-improvement There are also new sections on their website for the board of directors and careers: https://www.zapenergyinc.com/board https://www.zapenergyinc.com/caree...

Re: More Helion Energy news....

Helion has been slowly inching towards break even. Unfortunately they are extremely tight lipped about their progress. They have been even more so since the Alpha program ended. The information that I think I can disclose is putting them somewhere in the 10^20 keV * s/m3 range. Note that those are w...

Re: Tokamak Energy news

The magnets that TE is using are much smaller, because they use HTSCs. Those can hold a much higher current than low temperature super conductors. It seems that they are also more quench resistant.

Re: Tokamak Energy news

Nevertheless is for sure worth keeping an eye also on these guys. Oh absolutely. IMHO TE and Dennis Whyte of the MIT (who spun off into CFS) have a chance to put tokamaks back on the map as a viable design. The giants of ITER, DEMO and co lost me years ago. Both have a good team. CFS just started b...

Re: Tokamak Energy news

Here's a three-minute video presentation by their CEO, Jonathan Carling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfPZqZyZeyw He says they've completed another round of funding and are very well funded going into the "end of 2019", so it's a little dated. That is not what I hear. I hear that they are going ...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

ZAP has updated their website: https://www.zapenergyinc.com/ Plans to achieve Q~1 by 2022! That is aggressive though not surprising for me, given their track record to date and quite frankly, I would not be surprised if they got there sooner. In any case, the race is getting hot and ZAP is among the...

I believe they still need another 100 million to actually build the demo reactor.

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Latest results from Norman: 30 ms steady state plasma, 400 eV electron temperature. From what I understand they have a density of 5x10^12 to 5x10^14 cm^-3. That is OKish, but not Earth shattering. I was honestly expecting a bit more, especially temperature wise, but maybe they will push it further. ...
