Re: SpaceX News

Good for them! The red tape in the US will the downfall of this country! The Chinese (and the Russians to a lesser extent) are not waiting for us! Let's hope that SpaceX can deliver! I do not agree with Musk on many things (especially his politics) but man! He put the US back on the map in terms of ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Thanks, would love to see them break 10K eV before the end of the year. Then we'd start to learn just how much fuel ion heating by fusion products is actually possible. 20KeV? 50 KeV? They are planning for somewhere between 20 keV to 30 keV for their actual power plants. I suspect that Polaris will...

Re: Tokamak Energy news

4.25 meters radius! That is pretty big! For reference that is more than 2/3 the size of ITER! And that is for 80 MWe power out. So it is marginally smaller than ITER and also uses HTSCs. ARC is a conventional Tomakak and 270 MWe with a major radius of only 3.3 m... I thought STs were supposed to be ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

https://www.energy.senate.gov/hearings/2024/9/full-committee-hearing-to Thank you for the link Bennmann. Not much new in there, but I found some of the answers interesting, although I think the witnesses could have offered some better arguments a couple times. For example, when Sen. Hoeven seemed f...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Yeah, they are a bit behind schedule. Not surprising given the challenges with the supply chain and all that.

Re: ZAP Energy News

Yeah, Zap is my second front runner after Helion. I love their design. Let's hope that the new funding really is an indicator that Fuze-Q performed at least close to expectations.

Re: ZAP Energy News

I wonder whether this is an indication that FuZE-Q achieved Qsci > 1.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

That would make a lot of noise. Broad access to clean and abundant energy is more important for national security than any military application.
AND if they are in some way restricted and slowed down, the Chinese will take over the market like they did with fission and batteries, etc.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

From all I hear, they are still aiming to have Polaris completed before the end of year. Note that they often release information/pictures/videos out of order. Could be months after they were filmed.
That said, 2025 is more likely for the first net electricity tests (I predicted that a while ago).

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

I had understood that the power supply in this test machine was what was smaller, that the latest improvements were increases in its power. Helion needed to add high voltage capacitors as they were manufactured and that was the power supply hold up. Perhaps there was more to it than just the power ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

The formation test machine is a separate machine from Polaris. From what I understand, it is slightly smaller than the formation test section of Polaris, but close enough to give them a head start.

So essentially what Realtor Fusion and UWM is doing (and they already have a first plasma with HTSCs).

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

New newsletter from LPPF. They seem to be making progress on the funding and the experimental side. PB11 experiments with Beryllium electrode are now set to start next month (we will see, but fingers crossed). They also seem to have improved their symmetry with pre- ionization. Overall good news fro...
