Isochroma's junk thread deleted
I'm no fan of censorship, and in the years now that talk-polywell has been up, I've never had to do this before, but: I just deleted the thread in "Implications" where Isochroma was not just frothing at the mouth while grinding his axe, but also posting pictures that are wholly inappropriate for our...

FedBizOpps fusion bids
Good work, everyone! Clearly that's a site we should be keeping an eye on. If nothing else, it means that the research is continuing, and that's a good thing. (I also agree that, in this economic climate, research would not continue if the results obtained earlier in the year were not promising.)

Google offers $10M for ideas to better the world
Google's new Project 10^100 is an idea contest (not unlike the X PRIZE Foundation's "Crazy Green Ideas" ) offering up to $10M to fund ideas that will better the world. Ideas are submitted in text form (with an optional 30-second video) by October 20th. Public voting will narrow the submissions down ...

X PRIZE Foundation invites "Crazy Green Ideas"
The X Prize Foundation is inviting public ideas for what should be the next X PRIZE competition in Energy and Environment. Go to the What's Your Crazy Green Idea? contest page on YouTube. Submissions must take the form of a 2 minute (max.) video, and the contest offers $25,000 in prize money itself....

I've moved this from News to General, as it is clearly not news, and has degenerated quite a bit into sarcasm and ranting. Any more of that and I'll lock the thread. Please see our new guidelines for political statements, and do your best to follow them.
Thanks,

OK, thanks for all your input. I think a complete moratorium (even until Dec. 1) is a bit extreme. And even after Dec. 1, there are going to be a lot of bitter folks on one side or the other tempted to vent their frustrations. So instead, how about we all try to follow these rules when it comes to p...

Too much politics?
Is all the politics over on the General forum reducing people's enjoyment of or interest in Talk-Polywell? It has been suggested that we should change our policies to limit or disallow political rantings (from either side, of course). On the other hand, I figure, as long as it's in General, you can ...

All politicians are liars. All politicians are unknown variables. Politicians are "handled" by a feedback. If they *don't* do what they promised they would do, and cannot give a good explaination for their failure, then they may or may not get reelected. That's certainly been the case for a long ti...

And Obama doesn't make promises he does not intend to keep. The question is how long will he keep them? Until the polling results change? No, I really don't believe that's the case. While many politicians do engage in flip-flopping to chase poll results, everything I've seen of Obama so far leads m...

I think most lefty Green NGO’s will adapt as well. There will always be something bad to yell about and offer ideas for improvement. However, I still think they (NGO’s) could represent a bigger road-block to this – assuming BFRs actually work, than big corporations. If you poke around on the intern...

In his acceptance speech Obama said he'd have the US free from foreign oil in 10 years. If Polywell or something like it has any chance, that would obviously be part of the solution. Right — and in addition, to meet that goal will require an Apollo-scale national effort. Few presidents could pull t...

Re: Preparation for Slashdot Effect
Is the system ready for the Slashdot effect when the EMC2 and the Review Reports are released to the public? There will be Kaos (pandemonium) when the reports are submitted. I sure hope so! In all seriousness, the server is pretty robust, and I doubt even Slashdot would bring it to its knees....

Sounds to me like the whole thing is getting tied up in the usual government bureaucratise, waffle words, endless shuffling of papers around desks and the whole gambit that has made tokomak fusion such a boondoggle. Regardless of the physics success or not, the interesting science and technical pos...

Joe, you keep coming back to the thought that, "My Identity goes forward." To me, that seems to miss the point. I don't care if my identity goes forward, I want to go forward. There's a definite difference. No, that's just a terminology issue — the term "identity" means nothing more or less than "w...
