Re: SC coil design question

I didn't want to clutter up the 'real' thread with my side question so I thought I start a thread of my own for this. In the SC Coil Design thread you've got the diagram of tubing for the MaGrid torus. I was thinking yesterday (I know, a dangerous prospect :D ) ... Assuming the superconducting coil...

Yes, structural soundness continues to be a major worry.

I am trying to get a better look at the tee connections so that I could figure out the the flow of coolants. Let me be honest with you here, though. This kind of magrid will be damnably difficult to construct at 2m and 10T. I like the idea because it simplifies flow through of coolants, or appears t...

Beautiful job there, Tombo.

Can you give us view above each face of the cube with the entire assembly in place? You did this in Autocad, right?

Chief Simon? Check your inbox.

I'm gonna plug along as best I can without details on the magnets. I'll assume worst case. There is no way we'll know for sure until we can talk to some magnet guys.

What I was thinking about here is the potential improvement in structural strength. The addition of fiberglass and epoxy strikes me as a good thing simply because my big concern is a fracture or spalling in the coil. Unfortunately, adding this stuff for strength brings up worries about cooling. As a...

Our own governors, bankers and energy company executives have either failed to dispute IPCC claims they should have been disputed, or have actually colluded with those claiming that human activity is the primary cause of global warming. As far as I am concerned, this is no different from an assault...

Okay, paying work is gone. I'm back to work on what I see as my truly important work. I don't know if I am a harmless drudge, a hapless drudge, or a harmful drudge. One thing I am certain of is that I am a willing drudge. Why? Because I want to see this thing work. Why? Because I want to undermine t...

I made the mistake of watching the news for a little while this morning. FBN was interviewing Darryl Hanna about her attendance of the "Global Warming" protest in DC. FNB guys pointed out that the protest took place during a heavy snow that is being followed by a hard freeze. Hannah allowed as how i...
