Re: 20 years away, and always will be

Or is the government waking up to the boondoggle of big promises and lousy results for more 60 years, during which it has spent MANY billions on fusion. Many it's priorities re: fusion compared with computing are justified At this point, I'd say the best strategy would be to cover every base fully ...

Re: Computing a Winner, Fusion a Loser In US Science Budget

Frustrating. I wish everyone would be a little less concerned with their own finite lives and a little more concerned with our future as a whole. Putting all eggs into one basket isn't wise, especially if the secondary baskets cost so much less. This must be obvious to them, yet ITER's proponents wi...

Re: General Fusion in the news

The thing I get from it is that the system wants to bury breakthrough fusion research because they know it's starting to pay off, too disruptive. This is what I fear too. They'll sell it off to some bigger company and we'll never hear of it again. Maybe Jeff Bezos has enough leverage to prevent it.

Re: General Fusion in the news

A disappointing statement from Canada's perspective. Something like this could lead Canada to the forefront of a major new industry. Instead it sounds like this CEO would be quite happy to do what nearly always happens to Canadian companies with good ideas; they're sold out to the U.S. (or whoever e...

Eventually, they'll come after you for being self reliant, like they did this woman. http://www.infowars.com/city-cites-international-code-in-effort-to-evict-off-grid-woman/ This is just unacceptable. The woman needs to launch legal action. If she can't afford it, she needs to set up a legal fund p...

Re: Recovery.Gov Project Tracker

"In an online debate, someone will eventually say something like 'people have a right to believe whatever they want.' That will signal that the debate is over and that person has lost." - Phelps' Law Or that that person has become exhausted from trying to reason with buttheads. (Not referring to an...

Re: SpaceX News

Sometimes you'd think Musk is just playing one of those Civilization video games. Morbid as it might be, I've got this admittedly paranoid nagging feeling that it's all too hinged on a single failure point: Elon Musk himself. He's still relatively young. Give him at least fifteen years before he dr...

Re: 2014 Dark Horse Trifecta Year?

by now EMC2 is either close (how many years WB-8 testing time?) and needs a bigger machine to remove doubts, or they have it proven and Navy does not have the guts to take funding to the next mega bucks level, or Navy figures why not make some VC risk their cash. Have we given up on Lockheed Martin...

It's clear by now at least that it hasn't been an unqualified, run-away success.

Re: Fifteen Signs That All Is Not Well

It's pretty clear what the trend has been. And then there are the additional challenges the world faces, such as the inevitable exhaustion of easily extracted, high quality oil. Hope for a practical alternative source of energy is why I started visiting this site, but it just never seems to arrive. ...

Re: What The Market Looks Like Without Bernanke

I don't know about that, there'd be a lot of bargains available with the S&P 500 at 450. I'm sure there would have been something of a bounce back rather than a flat line, after the dust settled.

Re: Rick Nebel Discussed DC Transformer Project in Los Alamo

So, if Rick Nebel knew firsthand that the Polywell works was going well, would it make sense to start work on transformer technology? Given the prospect of the arrival of abundant, inexpensive energy? Or is it a hint that perhaps the Polywell work is not going so well as might be hoped?

Not EESTOR: Now Santhakumar Kannappan at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in Korea and a few pals say they have a solution based on the wonder material of the moment–graphene. These guys have built high-performance supercapacitors out of graphene that store almost as much energy as a ...

This is going to get very VERY ugly in coming months with - continued failure of exchanges to work. - millions losing the insurance they had. - sticker shock from more expensive policies with higher deductibles. - low information people showing up at hospitals thinking they have coverage they don't...
