Re: General Fusion talk at TEDxKC
While Michel Laberge was in Kansas City for the TEDxKC, he gave this radio interview of 12 min 26 s to KCUR. The interview can be listened to at http://kcur.org/post/tedxkc-fission-fusion . The discussion is nice but very non technical, so no new technical details on the progress of General Fusion a...

Re: More Helion Energy news....
Yes, they have a new website design, presumably to attract more funding. The most interesting part is this diagram: http://www.helionenergy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/FusionEngine-V8-01_600.png It is a bit sparse on details though. Maybe they plan to run first on D-D and then collect the T and H...

General Fusion talk at TEDxKC
Michel Laberge will speak at TEDx Kansas City on the 9th of August. The schedule at http://www.tedxkc.org/#section-46 is unfortunately not very detailed. There is a live stream URL for the event at http://new.livestream.com/tedx/TEDxKC2014 . It will be interesting to see if the presentation is diffe...

Re: Nature News article on TAE, HE and GF: The fusion upstar
NIF is not funded through the OFS program budget, so any increase or decrease in its budget would have no effect on funding for other fusion projects. Did anyone notice the following?: The fusion-energy advisory committee is preparing a ten-year research plan, due by the start of next year, that co...

Re: Nature News article on TAE, HE and GF: The fusion upstar
One should not forget that tokamak fusion has the track record for fusion power output and is very close to break even with known scaling laws. This coupled with the fact of inadequate total funding for fusion research has led to the current situation. There has always been many ideas to explore in ...

It turned out that this paper is still behind a paywall unless you have access to a library: Richtmyer–Meshkov instability of a liquid–gas interface driven by a cylindrical imploding pressure wave Scientific Papers 20 Jan 2014 Anyway three additional General Fusion papers is nice, even if the papers...

Re: More Helion Energy news....
General Fusion has the best solution to containing the 14 MeV neutrons from the D-T reaction and breeding tritium, but I'm not so sure how well Helion Energy will be able to contain the neutrons and generate tritium. I agree that having a separate burn chamber eases the maintenance of it, but it cou...

Re: General Fusion in the news
The main problem that General Fusion needs to address is the smooth vortex collapse. If that can be solved, then all the other issues should be solvable. They also have the largest resources currently to solve these issues, so I would not interpret this list as the situation being worse for General ...
