More on P+N15 please
P+19Cl isn 't a multiple of alphas. C12, P+B11, P+N15 are; so each has high binding energy per nucleon. Where can I briefly see/read more about P+N15? I'm surprised that the reaction would sputter carbon 12; You'd think there'd be too much energy for the carbon to hold together, and instead come apa...

So when a law is passed banning the dumping of toxic chemicals in a river, it was really to help (who exactly?), and not keep unwitting people from getting cancer? Such new legislation could be to forestall worse legislation for the polluters, or, more likely, as a barrier to competitive entry. New...

Re: despite the sticker shock....
I agree with Dan and Talldave. Seems like a nice (and quite expensive) science experiment. I just can not see how will ever lead to an economic fusion based energy source. If it could be seen how it would lead to a working energy source, then experiments would be unnecessary. ... What a remarkable ...

I agree with Dan and Talldave. Seems like a nice (and quite expensive) science experiment. I just can not see how will ever lead to an economic fusion based energy source. If it could be seen how it would lead to a working energy source, then experiments would be unnecessary. Work done at the NIF w...

The overall effort of this program is to lower carbon footprint and reduce reliance on petroleum through the Polywell fusion concept Does anyone else find this passage particularly ironic? There is so much rage on this board about funding of AGW initiatives, and this boondoggle happens to be anothe...

For the gov, the public are the shareholders. Not even close. Bizarre actually. Being a citizen isn't *anything* like being a shareholder in a company. It's also a disturbing implication that if you purchase a share of common stock in a company, you then have the right to rifle their files for trad...

Seems reasonable, go for the appeal. The Navy peer review document does not belong to EMC2, some material contained within in it may be of a proprietary nature, but a blanket statement 'it all belongs to EMC2" is clearly dishonest and someone needs to call them on it. What else will they try to ach...

Hmm. Since he lived to get here, then his mission must have been a success.

The Drug gangs are becoming so bold as to challenge the government. As George Will observes, the First mandate of government is to create and maintain a monopoly on the use of Violence. At some point the Mexican government will have to wipe these people out, or the Mexican government will cease to ...

Perhaps they're ramping up.....
And why would they? Maybe that's something he could afford to say out loud back then. A lot of things can change in that time. That kind of political playing field isn't physics. Consider Ladajo's POV. I reckon he has a better handle on that major aspect of the affair than you do. At any rate, we s...

Enviros are insane. Not insane. Well intended... After all, nobody wants dirty air, and nobody wants oceans covered with oil slicks, and nobody wants poisonous dirt. "Most of the harm in the world is done by good people, and not by accident, lapse, or omission. It is the result of their deliberate ...

But without reprocessing, it is still questionalbly economic to install any new plants. Irritatingly, most of the economic questions for mainstream power sources are now actually questions of how much the government will punish or reward a particular energy source. That's why we're building lots of...
