WB-8 is in progress (the easy fuel) and WB-8.1 money comes after it's successful. Good news is when we see the WB-8.1 authorized.

mvan, Yes, I agree, any exposed unshielded surface on the Magrid is going to pull in electrons and I'm guessing they wanted to try to figure out how bad that problem was. You can see the WB-8 design eliminates the nubs entirely, as many of us suspected it might. One of the really interesting questi...

Joel Rogers' latest simulation (released Monday) seems to point to cusp-plugging behind the WB effect (hopefully Joel doesn't mind me posting this): Fig. 3 shows a snapshot of the charge density as a function of position inside the tank. The central plasma ball is positive, coded magenta. The posit...

If I wanted net power I'd go for 10T @ 1 m bore. Or possibly 20 T @ .5 m bore. (same coil current - more intercepted area). At constant amp-turns B^4 R^3 scaling favors smaller machines. Now about those losses..... One important point about a dodec machine is that for the same coil design (B field ...

I'm sorry, were you implying something in this statement? This topic has long ago lost its basis in common sense and I have lost my patience with it. I for one will no longer read posts in it.

Donate design time to WB-D

Do you think EMC2 would be interested in donation of time to the design of WB-D? If so that might help quench some desire to get involved and facilitate building WB-D. There are many knowledgeable people here that might be willing to donate some time, and if this project takes off it might be a sour...

I wonder if there are retiree's or folks who have a few hours per day with design experience that could donate time to the WB-D design effort? Signing an NDA would likely be required. Donation of time is sometimes easier to get than money. Also with all the interest here, it might be a way to get so...

If in your 20s you are not on the left you have no heart. If by your 40s you are not on the right you have no head. I read Human Action by von Mises (with a dictionary open) when I was 18. Heart or no heart "left" is bad for everyone and worse for the poor, you don't have to be 40 to know that. I h...

So as I see it I can just wait for EMC2 to fire up WB-D or fold. Or I can build my own research device and get my own data. I kinda like the second option. If you are serious, let us know. In regards to some of the posts on this topic, I am a little surprised how nutty some folks have gotten. I thi...

MSimon and rnebel were both in agreement for an intermediate WB with the logic that too large of size changes will easily miss unforeseen issues. These issues are likely engineering issues not basic science issues and it is easily argued it is cheapest to solve them with smaller sizes. Hence the nee...

WB-D design funding

Needed: a few hundred thousand for some basic physics and design work to be ready when WB-8 results are in. Well, this is more than I have to donate at the moment and judging by the time it took for Famulus to get to $3k, it is not likely to happen without some contacts and positive early WB-8 scali...

Once WB-8 is up and running, how long will it take the Navy to decide to fund WB-8.1 and WB-D with all hands on deck if scaling holds? I'd estimate 1 month after review. Say 12 to 18 months from now. And the money will be no problem. Our government (such as it is) will be desperate for some good ne...

The design still looks too complex to be WB-7.1, though. I'm still thinking it has to be mislabeled. Perhaps the detailed WB-7.1 diagnostics claimed on EMC2 web site required a vacuum vesicle change, and while they were at it, why not enlarge it to accommodate WB-8? It might also have helped with t...

Good find KitemanSA. An interesting issue found in this pdf is that a key sole source justification for the contract award is access to the data due to the concept's initiation without the government. Hence, FOIA data requests are doomed to failure.
