The lab needs a great big keep out sign. Much as I'm dying to know, we don't want to let them feel any kind of pressure or distraction. At this point, nobody should do anything that might jinx it!

nif fusion

I'm willing to bet the polywell beats NIF to the development stage if we get positive results from Santa Fe between now and August. At the very least it will beat NIF on size and cost. Also from what I've read on NIF so far it has a way to go before the lasers can be fired often enough to be a worth...

The ITER crowd will be miffed for sure. That reminds me, probably the best way to generate public interest would be if photos of WB7 in operation were published. A picture being worth a 1000 words and all. Also, if any photo's of WB6 shorting out were available, or post destruction, or a blown out m...

Reaction would probably be similar to when the Wright brothers invented the first aircraft. Nonbelief and skepticism, until they go on the power grid and electricity bills start to drop.

People fight because of money. There was a former Marine Commandant named Smedley Darlington Butler in the 30's, one of only 2 Americans ever to win the Congressional Medal of Honor twice. When he retired he wrote a book called 'War is a Rachet.' As he pointed out, in peace time companies slog along...

I think Dr. Bussard was extremely modest about the benefit to mankind from polywell fusion. One of these reactors in any country is a potential Von Neumann machine, providing the means to make dozens more. Imagine a country like Haiti developing an electrical capacity equal to all North America with...

Nope, it was for emc2fusion, I wouldn't spent 2 bits donating to a Canadian political party.

WB7 1st plasma

This is exciting, I didn't expect to hear anything from emc2 for at least 2 more months. Maybe I should send an email to my local MP Raymond Chan. He worked at TRW before getting into politics, designed and built a machine. Do you think it could help?

Best $100.00 I ever spent!!!

Fair enough, but above a certain atomic weight, material will require too much energy to fuse anyway, if at all. All it could do is work as a piston to drive up fuel pressure. I admit its an extreme longshot.

loading up the core with non reactive matter

I admit its a long shot idea, extremely unlikely to work. It would mean having to ramp up the drive current in proportion to the added mass and would probably block reactions more than help. The machine would in all likelyhood run dirty (radioactive), if at all. I was thinking though, if the fuel an...

POPS core pressure

POPS core pressure should increase by using Boron based fuel with its higher mass than the usual lighter deuterium or tritium systems. Possibly some other non reactant material could be added to further increase fuel mass, allowing even higher core pressures.

improving pops

Just a wild idea for improving POPS performance. How about adding those harmonics of the primary frequency that boost core pressure while filtering out harmonics that attenuate the primary frequency.

bad journalism

What eventually lead me to iec fusion sites was the Popular Mechanics story a few years ago with the exploding empire state building front cover. The article made the fantastic claim that while government scientists didn't believe cold fusion worked a form of it could be used by terrorists to build ...

Thanks msimon for setting me straight on the rexresearch site. Since just about all the information on iec fusion is on the web, are there any other sites out there publishing bogus material people should know about?

http://www.rexresearch.com/farnsworth/fusor.htm, check under the 'Advanced Fusor' section with the photo of the model rumored to be self-sustaining.
