What interests me is the recent indications of superconductivity near 200K. That should be quite easy to support. Not room temperature, but a lot closer than 77K. Superconductivity at liquid nitrogen temperatures would be a big improvement over liquid helium temperatures. You bet, and SC at dry-ice...

If Tom were to record his presentation into an MP3 file, could someone on this forum sync it up to the .ppt and YouTube it?

so a U-238 doped thorium metal emits electrons and these great number of electrons will go through a Diode Now you got ME totally confused. By what mechanism would U238 doped Thorium produce betas? Either you have a Thorium isotope that will beta decay by itself (in which case, why the U238) or you...

Think of the "body economic". Ask yourself whether giving an addict another hit is a good idea. However you anwer, well, thats your answer!

I think the Aerovator is a much better option I take that back. It would never work for a myriad of reasons. Good on ya, mate! I was about to rip you... unh politely disagree. The most do-able low cost system today IMHO, (with current commercially available materials) would be a three stage system ...

Re: Diamond Coating

The high end for chemical bonds is around 15 eV. Even assuming a lattice effect of 10X that you are only up to 150 eV. The alphas will be coming in at about 2 MeV. Lots of sputtering. So what we have is an assessment that it SHOULD sputter, and many years of cyclotron modified diamond at 20 - 40 Me...

"Potentially practical" is an interesting phrase. :) The main problem is reprocessing. Which is exactly why I an so interested in ADS (or Fusor) driven Thorium fueled molten salt reactors. (TMSR) Their benefits include but are not limited to: 1. They need only minimal chemical reprocessing which re...

Diamond Coating

I presume you mean this as the protection scheme for superconductive MAGrids under the alpha bombardment? If so, perhaps it is time to railroad, because I have been looking at diamond as a good coating myself. Especially now that CVD methods have been improved so much. There doesn't SEEM to be much ...

Hey folks, In Iraq, its a no-win situation. All over the planet, when the Brits left their empire, they seemed to set up countries designed to maximize subsequent turbulence and discord. It may not have been intentional, but is sure seems to have been a pattern. An Anglophile friend says it is only ...

Greetings All,

A great trilogy which has as a basis the NAU is the Rosinante Trilogy by Gilliland. He posits a union created because the US wants the resources, and a breakup because the cultures are just too different. Religious aspects also play into it.

I think he is on to something there.

I think he was thinking of a coil gun. Just out of curiosity, how much would a 6 GW DC-DC converter capable of stepping down from 1.5 MV to maybe 1-10 kV actually weigh? How big would it be? Would it weigh more than a 6 GW BFR? A lot more? I suspect so, but I want to make sure... MSimon and I were ...

Hmm. I thought most of the new high tech high power systems could go either way. Rail Guns, IPS, EMALS, all could do with HVDC. Not multimeg VDC, but DC. No?

It is an air insulated 400KV DC converter. It is not small.
The big part looks to be the AC portions. Will there be AC portions with the BFR, I mean at the plant as opposed to final distribution?
