I believe he does have a demonstration model, or at least claims so. One which is said to be available to view.

I thought I'd read somebody on the site recently saying that these collisions were rare, rare enough to drop out of any calculations (by some orders of magnitude). Or was that in reference to something else? Sorry I can't find the comment...

Certainly not a quack, but perhaps a crank, sure. Interestingly I found him first when I went looking for news about recent developments in fusion, before I found this place. Consider that. If he's bad at getting his ideas across, how bad is this place if I found Azar first? Not to say that the cont...

Rigor, absolutely. And you should expect the same from our flying generator friend. Good work. I'm not seeing a lack of rigor on either side. On the other hand, your proposal that the purpose of their design is to forestall flight, because that was what air barage balloons were for, is akin to sayin...

LHM? I like Polywell, specifically, for the reasons you state, Tom. Yeah, if I had my druthers, fusion reactors sounds way more fun and profitable than tethered wind machines. Jupiter (heck, Alpha Centauri, if we implement Bussard's other big idea) would be a wonderful side-effect. But I'll take wha...

Yeah, my laser idea is purely speculative. But the point is that it's this is the kind of project that can fuel imaginations, and the end result may be something unforseen. Compare the first fission reactors with what folks have come up with more recently as the plans for new reactors. You can't ima...

If somebody questions polywell containment, they just need to be convinced. If it's a flying wind station, then cables and windshear make it impractical... I see... I suppose you can always claim that you're doing the other guy a service by making him constantly explain himself. Not just buying into...

Heck, if you want you can go right now to apple.com and buy a machine with two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeons and 32 Gig of ram. Of couse right there you're already over 13 grand, but if you can get this without even looking hard, I'm sure you can find the machine you describe, KC.

Can't I just be a teaching assistant or something? Uh, when speaking to those who hold those "jobs" the word "starvation" seems to come up in conversation a lot. Things may have changed since my day, however; that was nigh on 20 years ago now. But I wouldn't bet on it. In any case, in Madison it's ...

Oh, now I wish I could recall where I saw a quote, but I can't. Somebody speaking of the Polywell process said that the neutrons produced would be few enough, and maybe more importantly, unenergetic enough, that the half-lives of anything created by neutron impacts would be short enough that one wou...

Following on what Tom Ligon said, and having spent a lot of time at the University of Wisconsin, I can suggest it as the place to go if what you want to do looks anything at all like something a mad scientist would do. Like fusion power. Yes, just like Dr. Evil got his degree at evil doctor school, ...

Would this only be a problem for the test reactor? That is, if we're taking the energy from the machine as a generator by decellerating the alphas to create electrical current for use, then won't the impacts be lessened or negated nearly entirely? As usual I'm probably misunderstanding something her...

My father-in-law, an engineer in the air-conditioning business for years had one of those plaques on his desk that read:

"There comes a time when you have to shoot the engineer and start the project."

Bill, that contact page link is exactly what I'd imagined. In fact, not sure if it's intentional, but it resolves on it's own line below the others. That makes it somewhat distinct. Which might be a good thing. Like, "now that you've read the other stuff, here's the last step."
