Re: SpaceX News
Seems to be a fair competition... both companies to fly a NASA astronaut to ISS somewhere around 2017 with options for the companies to launch up to six more flights before NASA starts awarding actual crew transport contracts. SpaceX - $2.6 billion Boeing - $4.2 billion Both reusable vertical lander...

Re: Orbital math question
I thought I was doing it wrong but yes it looks like would be easier to go to the moon than change your orbital inclination from the current altitude to geosynchronous equatorial orbit In all the times I've seen the concept of shoving ISS around brought up I've never heard a different answer. Usual...

Re: How to defeat ISIL
Couldn't tell a Pakistani frigate from a US Supercarrier? ... apparently feel-good misinterpretation ... i.e. more "look at the silly ragheads!" blather from the usual suspects. Most sources local to that part of the globe indicate that an attack was launched with the aid of both ex- and current Pa...

... ... ... ... ... ... they're test articles for a maneuver that NASA is jittery about. Test articles that would have already more than made back their cost by launching ISS CRS missions etc. Using them as test articles, and if needs be discarding them, should open the doors to much more profitable...

Re: SpaceX News
I cant imagine them successfully landing a rocket on a barge sitting on 18 foot waves. Ah, I get what you mean now but you've placed the cart before the horse... the landing test would not drive the launch decision. If the weather is otherwise go for launch then impassable seas shouldn't affect the...

Re: SpaceX News
Interesting! Lets hope that this does not cause delays... Why would it? Are you imagining some mid-Atlantic touchdown? Different time zone, different weather? The smart move would be to place the barge as close to the launch site as is feasible. The barge would share much the same weather as the la...

Re: SpaceX News
Also want to point out that the only reason why SpaceX would want to land on a barge, is to demonstrate landing on a solid surface without needing the permission to land on land. I just said that... a demo ;) I think that SpaceX will try to avoid that at all cost. The cost of purchasing and maintai...

Re: SpaceX News
As I understand it the barge landing(s) are just a step towards RTLS landings. And if successful it would not only demo a landing away from NASA assets it would show that it can be done even on a floating platform. That thing about the Bezos patent sounded like the writer was trolling for something ...

Each El Nino has a multi-stage effect and a very large one is now underway.
I expect much postimg in this and similar threads during the current stage... not so much when the other shoes start dropping.

Re: More Helion Energy news....
I disagree for the following reasons: 1. Reclaiming power from the magnetic field is AFAIK the ideal solution. If this can not be done... Unless I'm missing something here (always a possibility) it can be done only to the extent that the neutrons deposit their energy in the charged fusion products....

... alpha particles are to be harvested by arrays of metal ribbons lining the vacuum chamber walls called the "Venetian Blinds" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_energy_conversion#The_Venetian_blind Firing the alphas through a coil might be easier. Well, with the alphas exiting the magrid through...

Re: Dr. Park to speak at UW-Madison
I gather the thing of interest in a polywell is the production of high energy ions/electrons. How are these harvested? It sounds as though there's no need for a process to transfer heat and produce steam or something of that nature, but instead somehow electricity is obtained directly? The electron...

Energy Generation -Fusion plasma is converted to i) direct energy ii) fuel for further operation Unless something has changed, the Fusion Engine is using TD fuel. How would that lend itself to direct energy conversion? Various people have speculated it's MHD driven by the fusion products, and I thi...
