Re: LK-99
Commercial fusion is near term and gets no excitement like this superconductor research story, a promise of a possibility. This is absurd, a complete lack of perspective, it smells like normal narrative smoke blowing, IMO. Sorry, UFO's got a lot of excitement too. Fusion is about to change the world...

Re: General Fusion in the news
Helion's time line has put pressure on the fusion industry as a whole, with ZAP a further possible issue. I wonder what General Fusion can do with a smaller machine that aims at only breaking if Helion comes in with net electric (late) 2024? Crunch time.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Buildings use cooling towers placed on roofs for their HVAC equipment, so it is common equipment. Helion fusion generators are reported to be 95% net electric efficient, so a 50 MWe generator would be rejecting 2.5 MW of heat. That is not a large cooling tower. Also electric distribution transformer...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Helion machines should just need monitoring and should not need cooling ponds, rivers, ocean heat sinks. Location on nuclear fission sites for utility power would be an obvious choice to start with, but location on steel, aluminum foundry sites would also make sense. Eventually, it would make sense ...

Musk won't even talk about it, LOL! Still, nothing will stop it now.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
The shock of net electric from fusion in a 50 MWe plant prototype machine will be earth shattering. Imagine the solar, wind, battery pushers once the announcement blows up the narrative, not to mention the fission people. Late 2024 is only a year away & I see nothing to push that out. Utilities have...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Helion's success is all about execution, making the components and systems such as their power delivery electronics and capacitor banks, and the regular progress updates from Helion are proving their ability to execute and meet milestones. Helion is not conducting a science experiment at this point,...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
The only time that I am aware of that Helion has not met their goals is when there was an investment money shortage. That time is over.

Beautiful machine!
Re: EMC2 news
It smells like good news is rolling out. I have been greatly surprised that good news has been so slow in being revealed. The problem seems to always be lack of money. Perhaps EMC2 has convincing sim results, but sims alone have not been that persuasive in the industry. I wonder if EMC2's old machin...
Re: EM Drive
That is disappointing. For skeptics it is unsurprising. There is too much good news these days so I am not starved for hopium.IVO Limited has announced that they rebooked for October on SpaceX transporter 9. No indication whether this was a last minute decision or not.
Re: EM Drive
Real Space Stations can now be built with spiny-wheel gravity and the whole bit, not to mention possibly doing station keeping with EM Drive like thrusters. The three main factors for space stations remain radiation, micro-gravity, and station keeping. SpaceX is poised to support solutions for all ...

Re: youtube Polywell critique with response from EMC2!
Yes, I get suspicious with coincidences. Perhaps he was fishing for news? I was disappointed when Polywell seemed to die after the paper came out that the cusps would close off with higher pressure, implying jump starting was needed, then computer sim work on improved modeling was performed. Then si...

Re: ZAP Energy News
Does not sound like a surprise because it was stated in SJ's linked video that the reason for current FuZE-Q performance is that it has not been optimized yet. Past devices obviously needed optimization also. I thought it was interesting that contaminants and their spectral lines were used to measur...

Re: ZAP Energy News
Yes, here is an abstract of a paper: https://pennstate.pure.elsevier.com/en/publications/advanced-space-propulsion-based-on-the-flow-stabilized-z-pinch-fu Abstract A fusion space thruster based on the flow-stabilized Z-pinch may be possible in the near-term and provide many advantages over other fus...
