Re: SpaceX News

Right. I think one of the reasons they are launched below their operational orbit it to help ensure any DOA satellites de-orbit that much faster.

Re: SpaceX News

Are you sure about that? I know I've seen conversation about how the Starlink sats will actively de-orbit... though I have to admit I can't find an actual source behind that conversation for the moment. It doesn't make sense to me why you wouldn't. I imagine with an active de-orbit you could likely ...

Re: SpaceX News

“Prior to this the idea was to decouple the legs from the wings. This wasn’t very aesthetic, so now we have 3 large legs/wings that actuate. It is slightly more risky because we are combining multiple functions together” Don't care what you choose to fixate on, or details you care to invent for you...

Welp, I’m guessing this will end up being a full year delay. :( Glad this didn’t happen with astronauts onboard tho:

Re: SpaceX News

Elon Musk: Why I'm Building the Starship out of Stainless Steel I was contemplating this for a while. And this is somewhat counterintuitive. It took me quite a bit of effort to convince the team to go in this direction. But now I believe they are convinced—well, they are convinced. So that certainl...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

The scale of the TAE Technologies devices is becoming impressive. Norman is about 30 m long, Copernicus is planned to be more than 45 m long and the power plant plan is for a device almost 110 m long. These are linear devices and that gives of course a lot ot benefits, but they will still be rather...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

I trust cost analysis these days as far as I can throw my trailer because of green power advocate lying. That is not to say I distrust you, it is just the people that write these analysis reports. Green power is a crooked business and heavily subsidized. Coal is dependent on the location of the pla...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Well, if your goal is to be competitive with coal, you are in trouble because coal power is dead. I’d have to go back and hear their numbers again, but they implied that with current gas prices, they’d have a hard time competing in the US with their initial plants. I think solar + battery is going t...

Re: SpaceX News

A new Ars Technica article backs the idea that Musk is excited about the Starship design changes: But above all these things, Musk is a geek at heart, in the sense that geek means a "knowledgeable and obsessive enthusiast." He is knowledgeable about rockets and obsessed with their details. In shari...
