The DKR macguffin seems to have started out in the script as an SMR fission job ...

Nice Lockmart backstab on aneutronic: "pB11 = 30 years away" Redefinition of a "fighter" possible as most current fighter deployments are for ground attack missions... but if a chem-powered fighter or SAM can down the new fusion-powered behemoth then what advantage? Fighter escorts for the new "figh...

Re: Angara News

Do you rattle off stuff like this all the time? You must be fun at Christmas parties. Just a rocket fan... there's an Elton John-based parody waiting there :) But I spelled them out to emphasize just what the Soviets did to themselves with the stuff and why having tons of metal tankage crashing dow...

Re: Angara News

I'm really curious what is "clean" about kerosene. Is this as compared to solid boosters that fill the air with toxins Oh no, much worse than that... The new rockets are to replace the Proton-class launchers, which use hypergolic N2O4 and UDMH Dinitrogen tetroxide and unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazin...

Re: Is a Purely magnetic (NO CABLING) Space elevator possibl

You've reversed the polarity :) The ion beam is what is expelled away from a DPF. The electron beam heads in the opposite direction and strikes the DPF anode. And at plasma densities approaching breakeven the corresponding electron beam is not expected to make it out of the plasmoid... it will just ...

I guess the question is why do tungsten at all... The plan remains to first test with tungsten and then switch over to beryllium. The current delay is from the company that originally contracted to machine the tungsten cathode... apparently the piece proved to be beyond their capabilities and other...

Re: SpaceX News

Unfair would have been something like "Boeing will be primary for 7 billion with a guaranteed 10 year CC contract upon completion and SpaceX will be allowed to play at backup for 150 million...maybe"
