Re: PPPL Colloquium: The Lockheed Martin CFR, Aug 6, 2015
I emailed Carol Ann Austin, organizer of the colloquium to see if it would be streamed via the Princeton Media Central site. Her reply was: "Hi. Yes, it will probably be streamed, as long as the speaker signs the PPPL waiver forms. Thanks." Thanks pdxpyro! That sounds encouraging, so lets hope McGu...

Re: Steven Cowley: "Bottling the Sun"
As long as none of the alternative fusion concepts has not surpassed the performance of JET it is correct to say that the tokamak path presents the lowest scientific risk to break even, because all the knowledge to do that was gained already in the 1970s. The tokamak plan is to demonstrate a burning...

Steven Cowley: "Bottling the Sun"
Steven Cowley has written a short article called Bottling the Sun where he argues for increased funding for fusion research. I think that the article is a concise very general summary of the state of affairs in fusion research. Increased funding for the field would be of course very welcomed to spee...

Nice progress with the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator: Testing of the magnetic field in the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device was completed sooner than planned. The measurements, which were much anticipated at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald, show: The superconducting magnetic coi...

Re: Summer Science Exhibition 30 June - 5 July 2015, London
I agree that it will be interesting to see what comes out of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator. The construction of such devices seems to be very complicated and time consuming though, which does not bode good for practical and economical fusion. Another device to keep an eye on that will resume opera...
