In 9th grade earth science class we made a three dimensional isothermal map of our class room using 20 lab calibrated thermometers. So, the notion that anybody knows what the temperature is of the planet earth is, to my mind, from my 9th grade science experience, is just BS. The number tracked to 0....

If you insist on forcing people to give for what should be charities, offer 100% deduction from taxes for donation to registered charities. United Way has 90% or greater of donations that end up in the hands of people it intends to help. Government is lucky to deliver 10%. That is a factor of 9. It ...

There are two issues here it seems to me. One issue is personal use of substances and the other is the attempt by others through indirect or direct use of force to limit substance use. Personally, I don't engage in the use of "recreational" drugs but don't support efforts by others to use force to l...

We routinely vacuum leak checked our condensers which operated under a vacuum using helium and a helium leak detecter. The procedure involved injection of helium using "cake pans" to limit surface exposure to small areas we were checking for leaks. If a vacuum leak existed at the injection site (iso...

Parallel, I closely followed Eestor, reading everything in print, patents, articles, blogs, research papers, etc. There has been no theory with real numbers that support the energy density within an order of magnitude of claims, and there are no real measurements of components that support claims of...

I saw zenn's price recover from 3.5 and went to investigate at theeestory site and found the total substance boiled down to a smile. Such is the totality of the evidence that Eestor is not a scam. There is really no reason to put hopes on rumors of unicorns based on a smile and an unanswered question.

Simon wrote, "I wonder if the actual work didn't begin before the award of the contract. i.e. EMC2 put up their own (an investor's) money to get things moving." That is heartwarming speculation for me. If it is so, there is likely to be an attempt to accelerate the whole schedule unofficially. Risk ...

Zenn is in the position to know what is going on, completely, no excuses. The City Zenn has had three stages in its short life: Stage 1 was planned development for sale, stage 2 was development just to demonstrate the technology, and stage three is now to abandon it as vaporware finally should be. O...

Saltwater condensers for steam turbines is not that unusual. There has been a learning curve though on what materials are best to use. We recently replaced our condensers with titanium tubes and tube sheets. Since the cold war end, titanium costs have become competitive. Barnacle and muscle growth r...

Simon, re: "About 9 months to the next contract way point. We should see a blizzard of new government paper around then. If the current experiments show promise."

Any chance of intermediate rumors? :)

Thanks vankirkc, I had not heard that the Fed is not likely to continue additional Treasury security purchases. That is a major relief that the Fed is not going to monetize the US debt. Of course, that leaves the question of where the US will get the loans for their projected $9 trillion deficit. As...

TallDave, thanks for the reply and wiki link. There is quite a bit to digest, but found this: "The Fed holds at least $534 billion of the national debt. The "securities held outright" value used to directly represent the Fed's share of the national debt, but after the creation of new facilities in t...

Federal Reserve funding US budget deficit

I am posting this here because you guys are clear thinkers and I need a major sanity check. Tell me if I am guilty of thinking the sky is falling down when it is clearly not. There is a new graph, started last week, on the Federal Reserve weekly money supply report (see page 16 of the St Louis Fed w...
