Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

That sounds familiar.. Anyway, yes, techs been around for a while. Relatively cheap, pretty reliable. You need the space though (and a lot of water). As an alternative I've heard people talk about basically just digging up a lot of rock and effectively using that as the mass you are moving around to...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

I was trying to find some analysis of storage costs and so on for different technologies and came up with this: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306261914010290 Which seems pretty comprehensive and is reasonably recent. I'm sure there are other sources about. I'd say short answer i...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

If I read the article right it sounds like the solar capacity is an underestimate as it doesn't include 'distributed solar', i.e. roof panels and the like. Apparently that was about 2GW in 2015 which is not exactly peanuts. May have misunderstood though.. We need better batteries (or equivalent), th...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

Possibly also trials for attempted crimes against humanity. Can I suggest that is a little dramatic. Even if there were a global conspiracy to to push us towards cleaner energy solutions the idea that the resultant world with lower overall pollution, increased air quality and a power system now bas...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

So my brief round up of this. climatedepot.com - is apparently funded by the CCT a non-profit that is itself significantly (possibly principally) funded by Exxon-mobile. I'm sure that's just a coincidence. To be honest I couldn't get past the shouty banners, but nothing presented itself as very help...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

Well quite. I don't know how to reasonably respond to the suggestion that thousands of scientists, journalists, funding agencies and so on are somehow participating in a massive international conspiracy to make up climate change for some sort of multi-faceted nebulous benefit for themselves. Heck if...

Re: Bill Gates is heading a $1 billion venture fund to combat climate change

I think the thing I find difficult to swallow is the implied* suggestion that there is some sort of global conspiracy to foist climate change on people. Apart from there being limited reason to do so working science also tends to be pretty cut throat and if there were capable people with credible re...

SSI - Breakthrough Propulsion Workshop Video (Mach Effect & EM Drive)

The SSI has started posting videos from the Breakthrough Propulsion Workshop held earlier this year. This should be of interest to anyone following the ongoing EM Drive and Mach Effect work. Re: Will Europe wake up?

Unless you are being incredibly careful with how you generate this data I would imagine there is very weak correlation between the reporting of offenses, the recording of offenses and the actual number of offenses carried out. I would suggest Sweden's large report number represents greater awareness...

Re: No news is good news????

There is a new report out from LPP. They had previously reported having oxygen contamination problems during test shots. The solution to this was to be 'baking out' the oxygen by subjecting the system to an extended period of heating - this lead to problems with damaging some components that turned ...

Re: No news is good news????

I backed LPP fusion towards their beryllium electrodes (crazy, over-optimistic, just wanting to do something ?) and as such I get some updates from them. Last I heard they were trying to drum up extra funding from previous (and presumably new?) backers for test shots to the tune of $75 per capacitor...
