If you had lived through WW2 you'd know how truly stupid that comment is.Diogenes wrote:The communists (international socialists) and the Nazis (National Socialists) are virtually identical
One side of my wife's family lived in the Sudetenland. I have a grandmother-in-law who still lives in the house they took over from the German family that built it [as 'reparation']. I have first-hand accounts of when the Germans came in, then the Russians pushed them out, then the Germans came back, then the Russians 'won'. There are two very distinct stories that are told of the way they behave and their mentality.
Despite the fact that the Western powers handed Czechoslovakia to Hitler on a plate, the greatest bitterness they (and the Poles) hold to this day is that they were left to the Russians. Just ask a Pole, Czech or Slovak. Same story from everyone.
The Nazis killed people when they hated them. The Commies just killed whoever got in their way.
After Czechoslovakia was siezed, my wife's Grandfather was sent to Germany to work. As the 'victors' would say, he was slave labour. He was put to work in a paper mill, paid and fed, wrote a letter now and again, learned german, and went back home at the end of the war with reichtsmarks in his pocket that made him relatively wealthy in the area. On the other side of the family, in eastern Slovakia, the Russians did similarly and those people were never seen or heard of again.
We Brits got involved in a war we didn't understand, and lost.
