Fusion skunkworks

Post by arclein »

After I posted 'Dense plasma Focus Device', I posted another item titled 'Reverse Engineering the UFO' for which a successful device as described is surely a precondition. We already have or are close to having everything else as per my post.

I concur that all fusion stratgies need to be pursued full out because the insights now are geometric trickery and the more imaginations at work the better. We actually now need a fusion skunk works. then maybe we can build a UFO skunkworks now we know how the darn thing really works.

I'm confused, you want what?
a ufo?
an hobbyist polywell construction project?
I thought this forum is by itself a skunkworks organisation.

I'll bet that if I needed some specialistic piece of hardware, and someone here has access to it, I can order it.
If someone wanted a piece of php code to create an webinterface, I can make it.

This forum is skunkworks imho.

The story about the ufo reads to me as a fairytale.
No links to any piece of information about it.
No youtube video, no graphs (even tho I would not understand it anyway)

I am going to place a big questionmark here, just to express myself.

I'm guessing he means a government funded site (probably somwhere in the New Mexico desert) where lots of secret experiements are carried out... the romantic view of the skunkworks.

I'd rather have EMC use the fund to move to the next WB model.

Granted, going full blown geek in a laboratorium building our own amature polywell would rock my socks off.
But in the meantime, I'll think I'll try to set up my miniature polywell just for kicks.

...
Thinking a bit more.
If you would work in the project for free and only for getting your name mentioned, you're still with the problem of actual laboratorium equipment.
The machines, valves, whatyemecalits.
You'd first have to get a team together of people who can and are willing to physically move themselves to a location where the project would commence.

Once you get this agreed upon, you could try to get some media attention be it in the general media, be it in the scientific media, and after you get this attention, find a sponsor willing to borrow you the equipment.

After that it's working on science while living in piss poor conditions in that workshop. You'd probably be burning up your saved up holidays from work.

Big chance you'll never get all of these requirements meet, or that someone blows off a deal, or you'll end up destroying a fital piece of equipment.

Actually, I think he means more of a volunteer - wiki-like design effort with some folk providing the basement lab - fusor network like. Unlike that, this forum is just a gab-fest with dribblings of news; afaik.

When I voted yes, I was assuming that the definition was SKUNK WORKS as in Kelly Johnson P-80, U-2, SR-71, etc. I assumed the intent was to build a WB-100 with an approach and attitude and timeline similar to that manifested by Lockheed Martin and Kelly Johnson. Check out Wikipedia:

Maybe we should ask...

Arclein, before we vote, what precisely in your estimation constitutes a skunk work for this purpose?

Or are you asking what makes sense for one, indirectly?

skunk works

Post by arclein »

Real skunk works have been operated with sponsorship and a procuement protocol that was flexible.

the idea is to get the best minds obcessed on the devlopment of the tech in the same loose working environment without been too anal about patents for a tech that needs collaboration rather than competition.

After all someone paid for all these guys to get the know how and the best reward system should be a major prize for success. that seems to even trigger commercial interest in an apparent long shot.

We now have the computer power to model the geometries of the energy flows.

i can also provide mathematical tools able to handle cyclic equations of orders greater than two, if it turns out to be useful to have exact solutions for the modeling process.

AH yes, heady days. Ironically the roles may have been reversed, Lockheed seems to have been totally unready in the COTS contracts. IS a company like SpaceX now the place where the "right stuff" comes together with the romanticism and the can do attitude exemplified by Kelly Johnson and crew back in the day?

I think so, SpaceX should be delivering to the ISS end of 2010. Next launch is only a couple of months away.
I like the p-B11 resonance peak at 50 KV acceleration. In2 years we'll know.
