Point out news stories, on the net or in mainstream media, related to polywell fusion.

HyperV - plasma liner

Postby Solo » Sun Dec 06, 2009 5:20 pm

HEre's an interesting magnetized target concept, which I think stands a better chance than General Fusion:

HyperV Technology http://www.hyperv.com/ has the idea to shoot jets of high-velocity, low-temp plasma to compress a compact toroid target. It's basically a form of plasma liner magnetized target fusion. It looks like LANL is picking up on it; sounds like a good idea to me because it does away with the solid liner and all the associated complications. They're using cute little railguns to accelerate the plasma, no word on the proposed target yet.
Here's the paper where they spell it all out:

I'm curious about the transport of impurities (ie, the entire liner is an impurity plasma) into the target. Also, they don't seem to know too much yet about the implosion dynamics, judging by the 2nd paper. Seems to me the dwell time could be increased by just shooting more plasma, which means they could be certain to achieve ignition, although the energy cost of that might be a problem for Q.

Again, NOT news! Another dragging-out try-it-over-and-over-and-over again project wheeled out for its nth trip around the block.

sigh!....

Might be new for some, though, so the link is worth a post. It's already on my list... http://www.talk-polywell.org/bb/viewtop ... perv#19359 ...so nothing to add to that.

My apologies. I ought to take a look at your list. I came across HyperV when I was looking at Maryland for grad school, and it was news to me.
