Thank you. They changed to @TAE from @trialphaenergy

Google enters race for nuclear fusion technology

Google and a leading nuclear fusion company (Tri Alpha Energy) have developed a new computer algorithm which has significantly speeded up experiments on plasmas, the ultra-hot balls of gas at the heart of the energy technology.

But not one mention of Polywell.......are we invisible? :o

TAE has a lot of 59th Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics contributions, but this one is the overview of C-2W:
Abstract: BP11.00042 : Overview of C-2W Field-Reversed Configuration Experimental Program

Again, thanks to crowberry.

• Progress / what’s next
• C-2U plasma sustainment compelling foundation for “long enough”
• 3 year C-2W project underway – towards “hot enough”
• Begin to work on to commercialization plan w/ utilities and industrial partners

I thought results would be quicker than 3 years, perhaps it will and this is just a slow walk. Whatever.

Begin to work on commercialization plan, that is good news pointing to optimism. Early test news will spur this. Exciting. Lookout Elon Musk.

Looks like the TAE Nov3 presentation was a regurgitation of C-2U results. Back in May, one of the stated goals of C-2W now called 'Norman' was to validate TAE's first principles code with extension to FRC's. The code is scalable to 10,000 cores, which in this case it seems 'scalable' refers to their programming and massive core processing rather than the physical device.

Earlier on another thread, an EMC2 topic and EMC2's proprietary first principle simulation, there was confusion on what scaling referred to, size of device (Polywell reactor size) or program and cores used to do the computation.

In other words, as far as I can tell nothing was published on TAE's C-2W (Norman) test results or simulation validation results. Too early I guess, so TAE did a rehash to reserve their conference slot. Too bad (unless someone has a link to something new not on TAE's website...).

to be clear, it was "size of device (Polywell reactor size)"...

Some new news from TAE, looks like first plasma has graduated heading towards first fusion.

"The Heat is On
November 6, 2017 | Michl Binderbauer
TAE Technologies - Norman

After TAE’s extensive work with our C-2U machine – a culmination of over 50,000 experiments – we were able to make significant breakthroughs in plasma confinement and stability to prove the Long Enough component of the Hot Enough, Long Enough – or HE/LE – milestone and sustain plasma at will.

We are proud to now announce that last week we achieved colliding and merging of field-reverse configurations (FRCs) on Norman, which is another critical marker on our path to success.

Remember those smoke rings of plasma we supersonically smashed together in our explainer video?

FRCs are a critical component of plasma confinement and stability. Thanks to our previous insights from C-2U, Norman’s plasma will be both hotter and more stable from the outset.

Since unveiling Norman earlier this summer, we’ve performed close to 3,000 experiments to ensure the machine is working as expected and synchronized for double-sided operations. Our research through 2018 will revolve around the Hot Enough milestone towards fusion.

Now it’s time to get to work. The heat is on."

TAE published the posters they showed at the recent apsdpp meeting:
This one stood out to me as it gives an overview of Norman and the experiments conducted so far:

Dr. Michl Binderbauer will give the talk On the Path to Clean Fusion Energy at PPPL on March 17, 2018,
9:00am to 11:00am. Hopefully also this talk will be webcasted as many of previous PPPL talks.

Alan Boyle has written an article on TAE Technologies Norman experiments https://www.geekwire.com/2018/tae-techn ... -frontier/. The plasma lifetime on Norman has now exceeded that on C-2U.

And twice as hot, so far (20 million C). Are they still aiming for about 100 million C on Norman?
