Yes, a narrow slot would be polarization sensitive. But when designing a Faraday cage I'd think you don't usually assume a polarization for the signal to be blocked. As for a circularly polarized signal, a large enough linear slot would give a 3dB attenuation for polarization mismatch, the signal getting through being linearly polarized.
The daylight is uncomfortably bright for eyes so long in the dark.
