Suppose in seven months time the WB8 phase is complete, polywell IEC rector scaling laws proven, and news hits the mainstream media that the ever-ellusive nuclear fusion after what seemed much like an eternity has finally been accomplished.

Patents will be filed to ensure future royalties are appropriately paid. As Dr. Bussard has previously stated, the financial gain to the patent owner(US Navy?) would be $100 billion/year(with a 2% royalty fee/ market value) for the forseable future.

As with most technology, design can be improved. Perhaps a different configuration bypassing the original patents? :) Immediately after the disclosure of the BFR success, BIG corporations will be on the hunt for those with a BFR technical know-how and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theories behind the BFR. These corporations know there would be great financial benefit to those leading the BFR design and improvement field. They will look fast, and hard, for the appropriate talent.

Their first stop will be the original forum dedicated to the polywell IEC reactor, "www.talk-polywell.org" where they WILL find talent. Financial/employment security guaranteed to those who now try to advance their knowledge of the polywell IEC.

i hope i`m not offending anyone by calling the polywell IEC reactor the BFR. Calling it the polywell IEC fusion reactor would be so cold.... its just a device and this is how it works...

Calling it the BFR would automatically associate aperson with the device, and place emphasis on mankind`s endeavour to achieve nuclear fusion.

The hunt is already on.

If VC has contacted Famulus there will be a LOT of trolling for anyone even semi-knowledgeable in the field.

And the Famulus expedition is about the third or fourth that I'm personally aware of in the last few years. Just think of what kind of bombardment EMC2 is getting.

Virtually no one in the scientific community will believe WB-8 results mean economic fusion is at hand without a LOT of supporting data which they seem unlikely to release.

The WB-9 contract itself will garner some attention if granted, but probably accompanied by equal amounts of scoffing. There is a long tradition of problems cropping up in fusion schemes. Of course, if they actually get 100MW the world will descend on them (and no doubt overload TPW's servers).

Don't expect a lot of VC money to be aggressively chasing this concept before 2014, and that's a best-case scenario. Even if overall WB-8 results are promising, they may need another medium-sized device before jumping to 100MW.
n*kBolt*Te = B**2/(2*mu0) and B^.25 loss scaling? Or not so much? Hopefully we'll know soon...
