His name is Dr J. M. Palms. Presiding Director of the Board of Exelon.
He has a PHD in Physics and was President of U of South Carolina for 14 yrs. I told him about polywell, he grasped the basic idea right off and commented they're getting fusion out of this? He he he. I told him that funding was out of the ONR. He said he has 2 admirals on the board, Demars and Mies and ""they haven't said anything about this to me"! "I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask them what's going on"!!

We talked about football polywell Galieo and CERN. A nice ride. Lol.

If you ever spot him in your limo again, I'm interested in the sequel :)

You may have just killed Polywell.

Exelon is one of the nation's main Fission Plant owners and may not want the competition!
DeMars was the head of the Nuclear Reactors group at NAVSEA after Rickover (and McKee).
Meis was a Nuke Submariner and won the DoE Gold Medal.

Talk about taunting your competition! Dang dude, why not just pound the stake in yourself?

Ahh, maybe I'm getting upset over nothing... then again, maybe NOT!

I doubt it. The physics are not going to change.

What may change is the way or party that *executes* it and puts these physics into practice.

Even if the Navy project gets completely scrubbed (which I sincerely question), there will always be another party who gives it a shot. Whether it be a private company, hobbyist or research project.

Do you really think that we wouldn't have fission plants if we never built the bomb ourselves?

Ok, maybe I should have said "killed Bussard's vision of Polywell". Whereas it may be true that "someone" may pick it up, it may be so tangled in VC control that broad and liberating usage may not happen.

As I said in my post, after I mentioned polywell he said he was BOD of Exelon. And quite frankly Exelon can 17 fission nukes or move forward and operate 117 polywells. Their choice. If 1200MW polywells are to be a reality, then its not just fission nukes generating electricity that become obsolete.

Mr Palms went right to electric cars, electric mass transit and loved the idea of opening up space based industrial infrastructure and resources. For a guy in his mid 70's he seemed quite a forward thinker. And as far as killing polywell, its far more likely we gained an ally.

As far as it goes, the CEO of Exelon has said he won't open another nuclear reactor until the waste problem is solved.

This alleviates some concern. Thanks.

Don't forget China - apparently building a power station a week.
