I said the same thing before the election. The timing is what makes Obama such a disaster.
I'm not so pessimistic. But we do have to start extracting more of our own energy. And a working Polywell wouldn't hurt.

Note that the rich's share in taxes was increasing as more money was being made. Also note that things turned for the worse when the Dems took over congress.
