10**6 Bacterial Genes, 25k Human Genes

Post by mvanwink5 »

And bacteria vs human cells are ** estimated** to be from 10 to1, up to 100 to 1, yes that many. And these bacteria are in all tissues and even the human nucleated cells, and living even in immune cells. Now tell me, why in the world are the life extenders myopically focussing on the human genome? That is so 20th century. Get a clue.

Because you are abjectly wrong-headed.

The bacteria are not in the tissues or cells, unless you mean the pathology of an infection--why antibiotics of different types are beneficial. They are found in the gut as a general rule in the healthy, and they certainly have a large part to play.

But the human genome has the overwhelmingly large role in aging and disease, also being far more discretetized and accessible, the human germline is where most progress can be made an preserved. Taking the route you propose means attempting to gene-engineer the whole of the bacteria on earth which do or can colonize people.
