Jerry Pournelle RIP

Postby williatw » Sat Sep 09, 2017 8:10 am

From Jerry’s son Alex:

I’m afraid that Jerry passed away
We had a great time at DragonCon
He did not suffer.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Well that sucks.
The development of atomic power, though it could confer unimaginable blessings on mankind, is something that is dreaded by the owners of coal mines and oil wells. (Hazlitt)
What I want to do is to look up C. . . . I call him the Forgotten Man. (Sumner)

SIGMA got the word last night from Arlan Andrews.

Jerry cheated death a few years back when brain cancer tried to kill him. I corresponded with him a couple of weeks ago, and apparently he attended DragonCon last weekend.

He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten anytime soon.

You beat me to it. As soon as I saw the news, I headed over here to post it, and It appears you have already done the deed.

We are losing all the greats in Science Fiction. At least Niven is still with us.

Yes depressing news. They're all just about gone now Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, and now Pournelle. I actually was thinking lately maybe he could if he had President Trump's ear somehow might be the person to persuade him to revive/ramp up SDI. Still remember the Delta Clipper that started I believe with SSX; conceived by Graham's group that Pournelle was strongly affiliated with. Vertical take-off/landing many years before Musk's Space X.

If you go to his web site the posted a free Ebook by him as his last "gift" to us. I think today is the last day you can get it.
