House to Vote on Fusion Research and Development

Post by Skipjack »

This! This needs to happen! A lot of funding for fusion and not just Tokamaks! This would be wonderful!

That's an amazing amendment.
If it passes the way it is it might really revolutionize the whole alternative fusion research sector.

I hope lot of people will lobby for this.

Looks like it passed:
"The Lamb-Trajan fusion amendment was included in the Energy Innovation Act HR4447, which passed about an hour ago."
Still has to go through the Senate, from what I understand.

Excellent news, founding wise this looks like the single most important event that has happened in the last 10 years.
Finally there seems to be a light at the end of this endless tunnel of waiting.

Well, before we all get our hopes up. It needs to get past Mitch McConnel and the Senate first.

Correct me if I am wrong, I made a quick search and i found that the senate appropriation subcommittee that should be responsible for the discussion of this bill is the "Energy and water development committee" that is under Lamar Alexander chairmanship who seems quite supportive of fusion technology research for what I have read.

Again, I am not into the nuts and bolts of US political system, so let me know where the pitfall might be for this amendment.

Edited to fix spelling.

Yeah, but Mitch McConnel blocks everything that comes from democrats out of principle and that bill had mostly democrat support. Also note that the fusion part was only an amendment to a much larger bill that contains a lot more other things that may be tougher to get past the GOP controlled senate.
That said, I hope I am wrong.

I see, so it might just become a victim of a political skirmish between the two parties just because one proposed it even if the other party is not against it in principle.
This is one of the reasons that always made me think that politics sucks.

Crossing fingers for it to get under the attention radar of the senate legislators.

Yeah, that's what I am afraid of. McConnel has refused to put bills to a vote in the past even if they would pass with bipartisan support.
