Re: SpaceX News

I do wonder if the FH launch fails if they might cancel the FH program. They’ve worked F9 up to a fairly hefty capability and already launched at least one payload that had been slated for FH. How many launches will they need FH for before BFR comes online? I’m actually a bit surprised they’re even ...

Re: BLP news

Ah, EEStor-- I legitimately forgot about them. In the meantime, while EEStor would obviously have had other advantages beyond density, the plain old Li-ion has quietly significantly eclipsed EEStor's claimed specs in Wh/L (877 vs 700) and is within spitting distance in Wh/kg (322 vs 385). (Comparing...

What lights my fuse is people that go fishing for the political opinion they don’t like, then rant when the get it.

Looks like we're going to start seeing some missions without recoveries starting Friday in order to clear stock of block 3 boosters: https://twitter.com/ChrisG_NSF/status/943209436415496193 Kinda ironic that SpaceX is now looking to save money by using automatic atmospheric disposal. It's the next b...

Eh, start at 1.3, ramp over 10 seconds to 2.5. Fuel is cheap.
Sure, but that's not the question. The question is does BFR have the fuel capacity to do so.

Re: SpaceX News

It probably wouldn't gain much time compared to the amount of fuel used, but I'm supposing BFR would have enough fuel capacity to keep at least low level thrust all the way to re-entry. This wouldn't be as fun. I'm sure if this becomes a thing, for quite some time the "space adventure" aspect (inclu...

700kg = the original batch of satellites launched in the 90s, NEXT or both? In any case, even with the old ones, it Wikipedia says the flare was from the antennas, not the general size. Curious if the antennas on NEXT may not need to be as big. They looks significantly different, but having trouble ...

Re: SpaceX News

Personally I think the big problem is the regulations. Currently the FAA... When first reading about Earth-to-Earth, I assumed the offshore platforms had to do with safety, noise, and lack of real estate for a launch site. But reading your post, I realize another very important reason... regulation...

Re: SpaceX News

SpaceX timelines continue to work a lot like fusion timelines-- Falcon Heavy still looks close to 6 months out (for the 2nd or 3rd year running):
