The Helion company and TAE both had small government funding in the beginning. At some point someone must have made an argument that field reversed configuration is a good idea that should be tried. Direct Air Capture is a really really bad idea. It is better to use the power directly to replace coal electricity. Once you have the enough power to convert carbon dioxide into something useful there are ample point sources that provide it cheaper. Blast furnaces, waste incineration, cement product...

Interesting though that the article stresses manufacturing advantages, but none of the others that were predicted before, such as faster charge time and extended range. I wonder whether they've backed off on those.
