The following article describes a method of diagnosing the temperature, magnetic field and density of an ITER style plasma. Could this or something similar be useful for understanding the Polywell?

Star Trek movie and fusion
Is it just me or does the inside of Spock's ship look like the inside of a Tokamak? The set designers gussied it up a little but its clearly based on the reactor vessel. Hopefully in the next movie they'll pay tribute to Bussard in some way. Bussard collectors perhaps?

After billions of dollars and decades of work, yes, tokamaks have achieved the most progress. I realize that this is a significant achievement. Definitely these other fusion concepts could vanish into thin air but they have reached their own milestones and cannot be easily dismissed. In some ways it...

Sorry for the redundant thread. I missed the original. Eric Lerner lays out focus fusion in an interesting google talk. He does address x ray cooling as a factor in the process but doesn't seem overly concerned about it for some reason. There's more than enough room in the world for polywell and FF....

Polywell versus Focus Fusion
I'm curious to know what the big brains think about the relative merits, possibilities, and perils of Focus Fusion and Polywell. Which is more likely to work and become a reality sooner than later? These both could be long shots but seem to be the most promising of the fusion schemes. The idea of ha...

The media has been banned from reporting on the demonstrations for a while now. That's why the media is full of phonecam footage submitted by the protesters themselves. People who have tried to report or who have been caught doing the phonecam thing have been arrested or beaten or both. That's why t...

Probably the majority of the media vote Democrat. That's been somewhat established by a few studies, I think. I don't think that they are hard-line partisan, although there certainly is a pervasive democrat leaning bias in certain ways. You'd be hard pressed to find a lot of pro-union talk in the me...

Dave- I think that its hard to even talk about liberal versus conservative. Those terms have become occluded and diluted over time. One person might call himself conservative and it would probably mean something completely different to someone else. The details also seems to get sticky no matter wha...

Your right that the socialists have won. Socialism, of a kind, was the emerging economic model during Hitler's time and just about every country has by now adopted it in some fashion. If there is a spectrum of socialism we definitely fall along it and always have. This notion of the United States tu...

If you want to avoid carcinogenic marijuana smoke, then eat it or use a vaporizer. Problem solved. We don't have to endlessly agonize over that issue that the article raised. Whether canabinoids are bad for the brain or not is an open question but most studies have not been able to conclude that its...

I agree that left leaning power centers don't tend to break up monopolies. That is a big problem. But no matter who has been in charge, corporate power has been radically centralized over the last few decades and it has gained veto power over the country. Just look at what they're getting away with ...

Who cares whether a bunch of pseudo-liberals run the media or not? Would we be better off if it were run by pseudo-conservatives? Just about any news or opinion you get from television will rot your brain, whether its Chris Mathews, Wolf Blitzer or Chris Wallace. Its not about liberal or conservativ...
