They care about being reelected above all else. Change is difficult, even if in the end it is for the best, so making a decision that causes change results in pain and therefore not being reelected. So, change now a days is very incremental, insufficient at times, and slow. Only in times of great st...

Will your iron ore stocks be enough to last Austria for 10,000 years?
No, but in 10,000 years, I think it almost certain that we (human beings) will be on more than one planet.

you might need to use 18 times as many mirrors What about nano structures? It seems like every week we hear about some new capability because of nanostructures. Nanostructures are playing a larger and larger role in the increases in efficiency being achieved in photovoltaics, perhaps increasing ref...

Norway, Canada and Switzerland also produce most of their energy through hydroelectric powerplants.
Albania gets all of its power from hydroelectric powerplants.

I don't see what the problem is with Axil exploring publicly on this forum how Rossi's LENR (if it is NR) works? Instead of telling him he is Dillusional, how about picking apart his ideas? In a polite and civil manner.

Alright, I am sure I am in way over my head, but isn't kinetic energy not constant? Isn't chemical energy (in the case of the rocket) or electric energy(from whatever source) (in the case of the ME thruster) being converted into kinetic energy and therfore changing total system kinetic energy and mo...

10 kg of palladium is $26
Ah, how many grams are in 10 Kilograms? 10,000 right? So, 10 kg at $.26 per gram is $2600. Of course, that is still two decimal places off the actual cost. So Chrismb would still be making a killing.

I guess I am a victim of the "progressivist myth", also. I also think that necessity can breed invention, i.e. if the need is great enough ("cheap" oil and coal run out and minaeable metal dwindles to near zero) things like solar, wind, tide, wave, fission, etc will pick up the slack. The ability to...

Charles, I think you missed the key point in Kiteman's statement: per unit work done The reason we use more energy is because we are doing much more work. There is much more work with flying from England to Australia than there is in sailing (let's say using a coal fired steam ship) from England to ...

dan, he was referring to a ground based fusion power station. That comes first, THEN you can build the accelerator and all that other stuff. No space based power stuff here.

The report states "First Plasma", not "First Fusion". We have had NO reports of fusion yet. 8o Concur. But (I think that is my favorite word!) don't you think it likely, terribly likely, that they have at least tried to achieve fusion since November? And if they tried, that they had a number (neutr...

The reason I think it most likely someone knows is that if I were them, I would have a neutron count in my mind that roughly equates to "that proves the scaling laws." Yes, they will have to go through a lot of analysis, peer review and multiple runs and yes that takes time. But to think that 2, app...

With luck, it is currently providing the data needed to demonstrate how fusion scales with machine size and field strength. Perhaps somebody already knows if the polywell when fully scaled up will produce Q < 1 or Q > 1 or Q > 25, or whatever. And they know if a fully scaled up machine will require...

Nice video! Brings back lots of memories from when I flew Hawkeyes and was a Mini Boss.

By the way, "which is obviously big enough to launch an E-3 and more", has a typo. Should be E-2. E-3 is a 707 airframe Air Force (wusses) plane.
